Guns N’Roses Plagiarized “Sweet Child O’Mine”?
According to NME recently, Australian music website MAX TV highlighted the similarities Between the iconic track by Guns N’ Roses and “Unpublished Critics” by Australian Crawl. Max TV have since deleted the post. In the post they did say, [‘Unpublished Critics’ has] the same chugging chord progression, a similarity-sweeping lead break, The verse melody, and elongated one-syllable vocal in the chorus.”
‘Unpublished Critics is taken from the band’s album, Sirocco, which was released six years before Sweet Child O’ Mine’. ‘Both were released via Geffen Records.
The bands lead singer, James Renye, told Daily Mail it’s “not inconceivable”that Guns N’Roses heard the song first. He added though that Ï’m not about to take on the might of the Guns N’Roses Lawyers.
My personal thought on this is why is this just coming out? Wouldn’t it have been noticeable to the band and listeners of the similarities? Check out the songs below and tell me what you think. Do you hear the similarities? I’ve gotta say they do sound alike.
