Re: Canon Tunes ask for this month.
A lot of Trench (the album), as well as a handful of songs from earlier “eras” (and even from Clancy, namely The Craving) made for great campfire songs. Some of them were songs Tyler would sing while around camp, sort of under his breath, but I don’t think he realized he was doing that and I never asked for the names of the songs, so knowing them now thanks to Trench (the album) is a little funny in a weird way.
Most of the songs were named after one of the banditos (ie Levitate, Chlorine, and obviously me, Morph), even those from sub factions further into Trench, and they were all obviously acoustic because it would have been a nightmare to smuggle out larger instruments from Dema, if you could even find them. Instead we had Torchbearer beating on an empty box and Tyler strumming the falling-apart ukulele we’d smuggled out years ago., the campfire, and a bunch of banditos, all in a circle singing— some more poorly than others.
I never participated, socialization was never very easy for me and most nights I was busy with the med tent, but I liked to watch when I could. Or at least listen. I learned many of the songs by heart and caught myself mouthing along to them if I was working while campfire-time was happening, as embarrassing as it is to admit that. It was nice. I know it made new banditos feel welcomed, even if they were only staying for the night. Maybe, beyond the “lore”, that’s why Trench is such a comfort for me. Who knows. — Morph (#☀️💉)
