Cleopatra

I have created and destroyed myself

    In every morning and night.

I have disappeared behind one million

    people who never

really knew me, and remerged as a

    golden, gilded, violent blue

bird; solitary and softly, simply

    floating forward.

Not batting a wing, or an eye.

    It was nothing like falling.

It was everything like be blown through

    cross winds by an omniscient

cackling mouth, larger than all of the

    ravines on the earth. Gaping. Black.

On days when the sky is in my blood

    I am nothing but serpent air,

Cradling all the wings and feathers

I have shed in my own wake.  

I instruct the deadly bite.

    I orchestrate when I’ll destruct.
