Banji was an oviraptorid from about 66 million years ago, in the Maastrichtian age of the Late Cretaceous. It was found in the Red Beds of the Nanxiong Formation, right at the Cretaceous Paleogene boundary. It had a tall, crested skull like other members of its family, and it had vertical striations along its crest, sort of like stripes. It had a very long nasal opening, as well. It was small and lightly built, and the only known specimen was of a juvenile estimated to be about 65 cm long.
