Kinda crazy that when I owned a dog I knew where all the dead rodents in the neighborhood were... Now I can't name the location of a single one
Fic rec! 3.5 Gen Yugioh
Summary: A vignette on a conversation between the Millennium Puzzle and Ring as they discuss the yamis, hikaris, time, their roles, and the art of being a god
Comments: Still delighting in BanjoDog's AU of the Puzzle being a God who has made a few mistakes. This is probably the most comprehensive in terms of explaining the history of the world, but it lacks some of the religious imagery of the others. Still, it's very tragic. The Puzzle's plans have never gone right, it now needs to take terrible action, and yet it's somewhat indulgent of it's enemy despite the personal pain it causes the Puzzle. There's so much complexity in all of the characters in this AU. I love it.
fic rec! 5K YGO
Summary: Yami confronts the Millennium Puzzle and challenges its authority.
Comments: Banjodog continues to impress me with how they're layering religious overtones on a three-way-Puzzleship that includes the actual Puzzle. Yami can't help but spit and hiss at the Puzzle, who truly does seem to just want to get Yami to like him - to the point where he's not above using Yuugi to do it.
There's this scene, where the Puzzle links the three of them to Exodia. Strong, but only when assembled, even as he has a knife to Yuugi's throat -
I swear. These fic are never gonna leave my head.
fic rec! 4K YGO with a Ryou focus.
Summary: While Ryou searches for peace and answers, the Millennium Ring decides it has a few things to clear up with Ryou and it explains the origin and real purpose of the Items
Comments: I've stumbled on a few fics written by Banjodog and Ocean, the two of them inspiring each other, where the Items have their own consciousness separate from the souls trapped inside and it's fascinating. In this story, the Ring rants to Ryou about the Puzzle and its plan, liking it to a god that predates Egypt that plans to destroy the world to save it. There's a ton of amazing imagery in here - much of it religious as the setting is a church. But the painting of Yugi, Yami, and the Puzzle as a holy trinity, ruling over Items, souls, and the dead, will live rent-free in my head for years.
fic rec! 2.5K puzzleshipping
Summary: While suffering from insomnia one night, Yuugi asks Yami a few questions and contemplate the consciousness of the Puzzle.
Comments: It's the little things that stick out here for me. The idea that the Puzzle itself is a presence that can take of Yugi. That Yugi has been taking Yami's nightmares. Yami's inability to hide his affection of Yugi. This fic is about the little moments, and it's lovely.
