Plate tectonics, which the geoscience community now recognizes as near indisputable, was a fringe theory until about the 1960s.

The first-edition of The Joy of Gay Sex, published in 1977, declared, “Vegetable shortening may be the best lubricant, since it is not only greasy but also digestible”[4] Such a statement perhaps gives new meaning to the companies boastful declarations that “Its digestible” and “Crisco has been making life in the kitchen more delicious for years.”  Similarly, in the 1978 sex manual The Advocate Guide to Gay Health, Crisco even earned an entry in the book’s index.  Discussions of the shortening’s use as an anal lubricant indicate its popularity, with statements such as: “The lubricant, typically the cultic Crisco, must be copious.”[5]  In fact, Crisco was so synonomus with gay sex that discos and bars around the world took on the name, such as Crisco Disco in New York City, which was one of the premiere clubs during the 1970s and early 1980s.  Other clubs or bathhouses, such as Club Z in Seattle, even featured murals with Crisco.  Thus, Crisco was conversely also one of many things that led to the formation of gay identities during the 20th century.

Love the gay history, but i just wanna correct that the “it’s digestible” in the gay stuff was a reference to crisco’s tagline it had been using since 1911, the actual meaning of its digestible is because it’s main competition came from “enhanced” lards which were rendered pig fat mixed with non food thickeners that literally did not digest and caused people to basically just shit out pig cream, since crisco was veggie based the body digested it along with the food

Get Real (1998) It's a fine movie, but watching in 2026… It's too late. I'm uninterested in these topics. I've done my service in the traumatic coming out trenches, I want to move forward and think about queerness in new ways. Though movies like this are important (historically and currently) and I think a younger person would find a lot of value in this.

D.E.B.S. (2004) INSANE that this was filmed to look like a Disney Channel movie. I have no idea if that was intentional or not. If it was intentional then it is A WORK OF AUTEUR GENIUS. BUT UNFORTUNATELY wasn't exactly my sense of humor. I still enjoyed it though!!

The People's Joker (2022) Ok so I really like DIY stuff, so I am susceptible to projects like this. It was actually funny, too!! Wowee!! The script could've been a lot more streamlined and the ending was NOT good, but I still really really appreciated this one.

Multiple Maniacs (1970) It's just crazy what the Dreamlanders were doing in 1969/70. VISIONARY. Like most of John Waters' early DIY stuff, half of it is boring as hell, and half of it is the funniest shit you've ever seen, and half of it is legitimately fucked up (three halves baby, this movie is 150% FILTH). How many times has John Waters made Divine put something absolutely revolting in her mouth for the sake of shock value???? Anyway, in this film Divine and Mink Stole have a big sloppy lipstick lesbian kiss, a cop comes up and calls them dykes, then Divine murders the cop. *chef's kiss*

She's the He! (2025) The transest movie ever made, and I fucking love it. Like I said in a previous post, the script is not perfect. But what they did with their budget... Phenomenal. This is a comedy that is actually funny. And I am so fucking weak for a comedy that is actually funny. NOT TO MENTION the representation of queerness in a new, complicated, subversive way. It feels totally loving and earnest while not being afraid to call attention to the absurdity and immaturity of these young people that are exploring and discovering themselves. SO GOOD.

So, that was my June!! If I had to pick out only a couple to really recommend, it'd probably be Moonlight (2016)-- yeah no surprise there, ACADEMY AWARD WINNING FILM! GROUNDBREAKING STUFF But also She's the He (2025). That's the hidden gem that deserves a much wider audience.
