Ghosts in the Bannack Ghost Town
Bannack, Montana, remains a timeless ghost town. It is noted for its rich history and for being one of the most haunted places in the state. Bannack was once a busy gold rush town in the 1860s. Now it is a state park. Its old structures are quiet testimony to the successes and failures of the people who lived there. People who visit Bannack often say they have strange experiences, such as hearing footsteps in empty rooms that can't be explained and seeing whispers and shadows that seem to move just out of sight. People who believe in the supernatural say that the spirits of Bannack's past still live on, connected to the town by the things that happened during its peak.
The Hotel Meade, a beautiful two-story edifice that used to be a courthouse before being turned into a hotel, is the site of one of the most renowned hauntings at Bannack. Many people who have been there say they saw the ghost of a little girl walking about the halls, and they commonly say she was wearing a blue dress. Some people assume she is the ghost of Dorothy Dunn, a girl who drowned in a pond nearby. Others suggest she might be another victim of the town's bad weather and tragedies. The creaking floors and cold areas in the motel make it feel like someone is watching you. People have also heard ghostly laughter and soft piano music, which makes it seem like memories of Bannack's more lively days are still stuck in its walls.
People say that other portions of Bannack, not simply the hotel, are equally as haunted. The old cemetery on the edge of town is full of sadness. Weathered tombstones record the graves of people who died from disease, accidents, and violent arguments. Some people who have been there said they felt uneasy or melancholy when they walked among the graves, as if the ghosts of the dead were still there. The saloons, schools, and other cabins that comprise Bannack's historic area all appear to have their stories of strange things happening, such as doors slamming on their own and voices calling out in the night. For believers, Bannack is a place where the past and present mix, giving them a taste of a world where history is not merely remembered but really felt. Whether you believe it or not, hardly any people leave Bannack without admitting that it has an air of mystery.

Bannack, Montana Ghost Photo
The story behind this creepy pic, taken at an old church in Bannack, Montana, is that the woman on the right heard shuffling sounds coming from the apparition. She didn’t see anything, however, until after developing this photo. Established in 1862, Bannack is a well-preserved ghost town that was eventually abandoned in the 1970s. Is the strange mist the spirit of a former resident?
