Flight of Honor by Richard S. McEnroe, cover by Peter Gudynas (1984)
British artist Peter Gudynas painted odd, surreal covers that worked best when the novel he was illustrating was also odd and surreal. In the late 1980s he abandoned paints for computer graphics, apparently because of respiratory problems, and from then on his striking art appeared on the covers of novels, story collections and glossy magazines, usually in proximity to the word "cyberpunk." Along with Rick Berry, Gudynas' digital works define that literary genre. He is retired from magazine illustration but continues to produce fine art; see his website at www.petergudynas.com for recent works.
