( from edmure ; EYES EMOJI ) ─ ❝ it would seem that a welcome is in order. ❞
@riverrcns
The greeting is unsurprising, though the timing is what Garlan finds most curious. He has met the Lord of Riverrun before, though has not yet seen him since arriving back in the Crownlands. To be fair, he has not sought the man out either.
The Lord of Brightwater is aware, of course, that his sister has been seen in Lord Tully’s company, but Garlan has yet to offer his opinion on the matter. In truth, he has yet to form an opinion at all.
And if he’s being exceptionally honest, he’s had very little time to do so.
Garlan’s days are filled with military strategy, corralling the Tyrell troops, chaperoning his siblings as best he can, and doing what he is able to ensure his grandmother doesn’t sell one of his siblings or children for a marriage they’ve no interest in.
[ Willas is the Lord of Highgarden now; Garlan is not so naïve to think he will allow Grandmother to choose his bride when he finally has that privilege for his own.
But when it comes to Margaery, he rather expects his grandmother is holding out for little less than Robb Stark.
As if Garlan and Willas would ever send her to the utter wasteland that is the North. ]
What little free time he has is spent with his family, with his beautiful Leonette and their two children, with Margaery [ when she is with them; his sister flits about as a butterfly most days ], with the younger brother he’s trying to make amends with, with the grandmother he wants to hug only slightly more than he wants to throttle.
But now, as he sees Lord Tully in front of him, Garlan finds that he’s feeling rather reckless.
“I appreciate the welcome, Lord Tully,” he acknowledges, the smile rising on his face as he clasps the man’s hand before withdrawing.
[ So this is the man Margaery has chosen. Garlan wonders why. ]
There is an amused glint in his eye, though he does not expect the Lord Paramount of the Trident to recognize it for what it is.
“It would seem I have been rather remiss,” he offers, his smile becoming sharklike. “I’m quite close with my elder brother and as you know, Willas has become Lord of Highgarden upon my father’s death.”
He is enjoying this, much more than he should. He wonders if his grandmother would smack him with her cane if she heard him or if she would be proud of what little bit of guile he possesses.
“Tell me, if you would, of your nephew. Do you think he would suit my sister?”
