Oh wow, where do I begin?!!! I’m so, so, so happy Barbelle came back and I’m loving Season 2, so far! First episode was so *HOT*, damn! But you know what, this second episode here, is my favorite, right now! Of the season, and maybe even the show (with Season 1, Episode 10). What I love about both episodes, is how good this show is at heart-to-hearts. The writing is excellent, but the acting here is A+++++. That scene between Alice (Gwenlyn Cumyn) and Veronica (Karen Knox), sitting in very clean Montreal public restrooms, makes you feel so much. The way Veronica’s heart breaks and she is not hiding it from her lobster made me cry. I love this. And of course, after that, it gets really *HOT*, eh?

Oh dear. I wasn’t home last night, so I didn’t get a chance to watch the latest episodes of Barbelle until now. And, oh! The talent on this beautiful little gem of a webseries is outstanding. These last episodes, of the season, I hope not of the series (although, I have to admit, this would be a proper send off; but no, please, no!!) hit me in the guts and in the feelings, like that punch Alice (Gwenlyn Cumyn) wished she’d thrown.

I want more, obviously, I want more. When characters are so well-written, you care for them, you love them, you want to follow them on a long, long ride. And one of the things I’ve loved this season is the character development of one Veronica Vale (Karen Knox). The many ways on which she’s worked on herself, made amends, tried to make up for her mistakes is truly remarkable, and as fond as I am of Alice (which is very, very fond), I wished she’d acknowledged it more.

The way Gwen and Karen dealt with the difficult topic of a predatory lesbian, without falling into the trope and the prejudice was as brilliant as it is important. They are remarkable creators, and a wonderful team, and I know there will be so much more content from their fruitful collaboration. I’m very excited for it -for Slo Pitch, for instance. And I really do wish, some of that content will be a third season of Barbelle. This could be the end, and a beautiful one; I’m not ready for it to be. I love this show too much. If it is though, I am grateful for its existence.

This is Spring, and I'm resuming my Barbelle re-watch with Season 2. Only one episode a week, I am savouring it, like an egg salad sandwich!

Another favorite Canadian Webseries of mine, I'm happily jumping into a long-overdue Barbelle rewatch!

And oh, it feels even better this time around. Gwen and Karen are sheer gems, and their performances as Alice and Veronica are always beautifully nuanced. I miss them heaps!
