Barbie Thomas
Barbie Thomas
Armless bodybuilder Barbie Thomas wows competition with groundbreaking routine
"I'd say to anyone, you can do whatever you put your mind to," Thomas told the Daily Mail. "The only limitations are the ones you put on yourself. Everyone has limitations and handicaps in some way or another — mine are more visible than yours, maybe."

When you think things can't get anymore bizarre... Meet the Armless Mom Who Followed Her Dream of Becoming a Professional Bodybuilder. ~KerryG
Okay... I understand that people can have their own opinions about things, and are free to express them. That's fine. However, that also means that I can express my opinion about their opinion ;)
I understand that this Barbie Thomas woman is really great and strong and inspirational and all that. BUT. I just watched one of her videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzOF71ljk4M
wow... I don't know if my psych of gender class is just getting to be but what?! Why is this cool? You're essentially putting anyone who doesn't look the way you think they should down and saying that they shouldn't have the freedom to wear what they want. In some (VERY few) instances, I think she is right. Genitalia and breasts should be covered at the gym. That being said, not wanting to see someone's genitalia and not wanting to see someone's "fat rolls" are two different things. If you want to wear tight clothes and short shorts, go for it. Who cares if you're bigger? You're working out, that's for you, that's your business. Are people going to judge you? Yes, of course. It's human nature to judge. Not going to lie, I judge people based off of looks on a daily basis. BUT I make a concerted effort to change this, because it isn't okay. As far as her hairy guys comment goes, that really pisses me off. As someone dating a guy who has more hair than is typically thought to be more than the social norm, that makes me so angry. I think he looks wonderful and I hate that he feels so self conscious about his body. It's people like that who perpetuate that.
No one should be ashamed to go to the gym. As someone who is not the societal norm, I find it shocking that she would be so incredibly close minded.
