Low-tech in communications by Klaus Fruchtnis Technology is defined in the widest sense possible – not just screen-based, digital technology, but also mechanical, chemical, auditory, experiential technologies – since the hybridization of “low tech” and “high tech” often produce powerful emotional experiences – familiar yet awe-inspiring at the same time.
c o n t e x t by Sanet Stegmann The codependent nature of the narrative between human interaction and context is explored. Accustomed symbols are explored in a variety of amalgamations within a defined space to develop a dialogue between the space and user. The engagement with the connector (the viewer) within the context is only fully discovered through human interaction.
Perception (Re)defined by Basma Seif What is perception? There are endless theories and definitions of perception ranging from dictionary definitions, to psychology theories and ideas to different viewpoint opinions of artist & scientists. The evaluation of a space or structure is all about how people perceive it; it’s all purely human perception and emotions. When it comes to the Parisians historical & touristic monuments, perception plays a great role in the definition of these monuments. Not all people have the same perception vision of these monuments; they help shape this vision through pre-existing definitions and theories of this space. The shape and identity of the monuments also place an important factor in the development of the seen surrounding spaces and the hidden Parisians culture & beliefs.

Necessity Is the Mother of Lo Tech by Taylor Holland Informed by a background in DIY/punk ethos and lo-fi recording techniques, the foundation of my art practice is built on a similar approach, with repurposing, recontextualization, appropriation, hacking, accessibility, and immediacy all playing a role. I feel strongly that original outcomes can be found by exploring principles related to Lo Tech and will continue to employ it in my practice going forward.
Demystifying Technology, Self Authorization and Biotech by Helga Jakobson As an outsider, it is easy to mystify technology. When you have no experience in technical production or exploration, it can seem daunting to approach fields where the necessity for proficiency and access to equipment can feel like insurmountable hurdles, where does one begin? Through my practice I have worked in and out of labs, with biohackers, scientists, organizations devoted to new media work, and other artists equally interested in exploring biology as a catalyst for and extension of artistic production. Through working with others and locating open source resources one can demystify technology and create their own access.
Point of Departure by Max Franklin Improvisation and spontaneity have existed in music as a core aspect of its practice since the very beginning. Traditional folk song, classical music, and jazz have all incorporated improvisation into their practice as a final work. This interaction with time, space and audience informs the dynamic of each individual rendition and in doing so, can manifest into a raw uncompromising artistic experience which uniquely connects and interacts with an audience. Fine art has also had this tradition where space, time, sound and the spontaneous nature of improvisation has led to some of the finest creative works by artists throughout the ages. Now however we are in a time where technology can aid in a further immersive, spontaneous and improvised creative process, and present its formation as a work in itself. Like never before we have the opportunity now to open direct artistic dialogue with an immediately interactive audience.

The Art of Google Dream by Andrew Voxakis Google Dream is an artificial intelligence experiment that uses the vast “neural network” or a computer system modeled on the human brain. Deep Dream, as it’s called, intends to help people further understand how neural networks in computer systems and AI technologies function. Can scientific experiments, such as this, help further and push today’s artistic ascetic to new levels? Will these alterations last or is it just a fleeting fad? Who does it benefit more, the scientists or the creative professionals? Ultimately, where does the hybridization of science and art lead us?
Inverting the Narrow Street by Claire Leggett What if we're breaking planes all of the time like two dimensional shapes passing through the third dimension. What if psychologically we're always walking toward a point and never arriving due to the cultural lines of perspective drawings and paintings that started with Masaccio – The Tribute Money c.1426-27. How do we de-fragment these lines that have been ingrained in order to reimagine space. I started by using scrap pieces of canvas, that were thrown away in a painting class, to create raw unpainted surfaces. Now these works are just starting the discovery of pushing into extremely minimal coded images using Processing (processing.org), and how do you have a canvas that’s never touched with a mark-making material (a brush, pencil, etc.) but describes space to challenge our cultural notions of it. "Inverting the Narrow Street," is about the traditional lines that draw urban streets coming at you to create prisms instead of away from you to say that space is yours to have, not just walk through, run through. Imaging space as coming toward you, at you, strives to contextualize that you're in the point you're going toward.
The Visible Invisible Things by Yongqing Fei A human Interactive project usually refers to an interface that takes in recognizable human actions as a source input. I, however, am interested in those invisible actions that are actually essential to human life and the environment we live in. Breath, for example, happens uncountable times daily, but is easily neglected due to its subtle, unnoticeable nature. I believe the beauty of breathing should not be so simply forgotten just because it is invisible. My project aims to visualize breathing by using arduino interfaces and other elements to help the viewers re-discover the beauty and rhythm of this tiny little action.
