Barikad Accident

On Sunday, June 15th 2008, 3 Haitian rappers from the Barikad Crew, another band member, and the group’s driver died in a terrible car accident.

They were electrocuted and burned beyond recognition when a high tension electrical wire struck their car. The fiancée of the lead member, Papa Katafal, who was several months pregnant committed suicide soon after the accident. This accident is reverberating throughout Haiti, a country where hopes are easily dashed, and promises often broken. Long after the car and the bodies had been removed, fans came to the accideent site in droves to reflect, ask questions, and pay their last respects to a music group that gave them hope.
