It's the holiday season. We eat a lot of pasta dishes. It gets busy. Our regular brand of pasta is Barilla. I prefer the ready pasta for convenience. My daughter Alyssah prefers the regular boxed pasta. She likes to control the cook times. She's a big texture person. She likes a good al dente pasta. She has a very selective palate.
Barilla Red Lentil Pasta is a nice choice for recipes like pasta salad. It has a wonderfully appetising color. There's no significant difference in flavor from regular pasta. It substitutes well into pasta recipes if you're looking for flavor and color. Texturally, it falls short of al dente when cooked to specifications. If you're big on texture, this may be an issue for you.
Barilla Chickpea Rotini Pasta has a slightly dissimilar flavor than regular pasta. It becomes more noticeable the more you eat. This would be better with stronger flavors like garlic or pesto. We cooked the chickpea rotini pasta longer than the red lentil pasta. However, there's still a noticeable textural difference.
I appreciate that Barilla Red Lentil Pasta has one ingredient, red lentil flour; and, Barilla Chickpea Pasta has one ingredient, chickpea flour. Both pasta varieties are gluten free, come in minimal, recyclable packaging, and are good sources of protein and fiber. Barilla Chickpea and Red Lentil Pastas are healthier alternatives to the regular Barilla pasta blue box product line. They are more expensive, if cost is a factor for you. At Walmart for example, the regular Barilla blue box rotini pasta is $1.28 for 16oz. Both the Barilla Red Lentil and Chickpea Rotini Pasta are $2.48 for 8.8oz. To be honest, I wouldn't have noticed if it hadn't been pointed out to me by a cost suavy friend.
I purchased Barilla Red Lentil and Chickpea Rotini Pasta from Walmart online grocery pickup at a discounted price in exchange for my review. All opinions are my own.
