Thinking about how, during their first interaction which lasted for a grand total of about five minutes, Cas does his little puppy dog eye thing + head tilt and says “you don’t think you deserve to be saved.” HELLO??? That is one of the first things Cas ever says to Dean, poster child of self hatred, right after Dean comes back to life and is saved from Hell. He went to Hell, tortured people, enjoyed it, and here comes this angel all but telling him that Dean still deserves good things. That good things can still happen to him. That he deserves to be saved. He doesn’t say it in so many words, but that’s what he implies when he says “you don’t think you deserve to be saved” in a disbelieving tone.
I’ve seen so many new watchers (like myself) say they thought Destiel was all subtext. That it was some shit like Johnlock where things can be explained away. “Oh they’re just best friends”. And I’ve seen these new watchers follow this up with “I was so wrong” “I was not prepared for this” and they’re all right. Nothing and no one could have prepared me for the barn scene.
My point with all this is to say Destiel can barely even count as subtext from the start and I am doomed. I’m only in the middle of s4 and I’m obsessed with them already. There’s a reason I avoided this show for a third of my life and this is it. Welp. Looks like I’m selling my soul to spn (Destiel).
