2/18/21 This was a cool project that I have been working on for some friends of mine over the past few months as they have been remodeling their new house. One of their hopes was to someday have a fireplace, but it seemed like a far off thing. Another good friend of mine gave me a brand new electric fireplace, so I said, "What if we build something cool around this with an old beam for a mantle and you could hang your TV over top?" That led to spending an afternoon with a chainsaw cutting up old beams from a fallen barn down the road, and then the process of cleaning it up, sanding, burning and ultimately, attaching it in place. It was good to finally screw it all down today and put the fireplace in and call it done. Behind the TV we mounted the cable box on the wall to get rid of any unsightly wiring. My friend is a police officer, so it was really fun to bless him. His wife and I were scrambling at the last minute to get it all put back together so when he walked in the door he could see the finished result. They are both so grateful and excited. It's been a fun project in general to take this bland ranch house and tear out walls and add flooring, move the kitchen, lighting and transform it to an open inviting space.
