When Jessica sets up a clinic in Kirehe, Rwanda, her staff includes Jean-Baptiste, a cheerful middle-aged man with an aphorism for every occasion such as “You can’t get meat from the cow that gives you milk.” He serves as her driver, translator, and surrogate father. 

Didi and Yvette are recent graduates of a medical assistant program, and they alternate as receptionist and medical assistant, doing everything from stocking shelves to assisting with deliveries and surgeries.
