"What's so bad about being with me?"
Anyone else think that Bear’s name in Obsession is a play on the question “Man or Bear?” because he’s not giving a choice at all and is both?
Just me?

Horror fans are eating good this year
The thing about Obsession 2026 that gets to me is that the initial wish is a spur of the moment decision. Men don’t always control women with intentional, well-planned actions. Bear was not initially trying to control every aspect of her life, he didn’t even think it would work. He didn’t think of it as an act of violence. And at no point does he put his hands on her, or anyone. But because of his flippant decisions, spurred by emotional immaturity, violence befalls everyone involved, including himself. He indirectly killed Sarah, and Ian, and (directly killed) himself, and he is the reason Nikki has cuts and contusions on her face, and probably has multiple concussions and broken bones…not to mention the level of mental and emotional trauma dealt to her. At every turn he makes the selfish choice. And from start to finish, the movie is easily able to convey three things: 1. Loss of autonomy is a form of violence. 2. Men ruin everything. 3. Liberty is not the same as freedom.
thibking about Obsession (2026) and I also kind of feel bad for Wish Nikki...like of course what she did to Real Nikki, Sarah and Ian are awful but it doesn't seem like she had much control over herself either. Whatever she was, she was brought into existence to love Bear and only Bear more than anything else in the world, that's what he asked for. It's like she doesn't understand human connection or behavior but she knows all she wants, no needs, is to get Bear to love her back, and she can't even do that right. She seems entirely miserable throughout the film except for when Bear is good to her and that's because she's quite literally nothing without him. When you consider that without Bear she spent his entire work shift standing there unmoving waiting for him it makes sense she didn't want him to leave and went through the extremes of taping up the door to stop him. She has nothing else, nobody else, hell even Nikki's so called friends all seem to think there is something wrong with her and they don't try to help her they try to help Bear instead. Maybe they did try to talk to her and she wouldn't listen or accept any help, why? She can't do anything but want to be with Bear, no matter what. No matter how much it hurts her and everyone around her. Imagine that being your whole existence...horrifying!!!
The casting choice for Obsession was PERFECT for teaching viewers a guy with big doe eyes, a high-pitched, soft, and stuttering manner of speaking, who is quiet, private, and reserved can actually be an extremely bad person and a huge threat.
It's not just guys that look mean and dangerous on the outside.
Sometimes the scariest ones are the ones that look like your best friend.

I HAD to create a masterlist for this movie I love it so much
The fact that some people watched Obsession and tried to defend Bear by saying that he "didn't know what he was doing" only for the creator to essentially say "not only did Bear know exactly what he was doing, but here is the exact moment where you as the audience were supposed to realize that" 😭
