I’d kill to be a fly on the wall and watch Nikki’s interview with the cops after she calls them and gets released from the hospital.
Nikki would’ve had to be inside and call the cops but way more likely she would’ve ran outside to the first person she called or to a place she knows to beg them to call. The police show up and find a woman covered in blood, and wounds (if they can’t see the glass in her head wound the hospital will inform them later), wearing another woman’s hair, and has strange drawings scribbled all over her as she’s almost incoherent.
They GO to Bear’s house and there’s a man at the front door who’s been executed, and then there’s a body of Sarah enshrined, naked, and has her face beaten beyond recognition with no wounds on her body that aren’t post mortem. A glance at the body shows tattoos that match the living victims scribbles and dna collection is gonna show the hair on her is from the body too later on. Then you have a body which clearly ODed with zero wounds on him, gunpowder on his hands, and was pushed off the couch from someone’s lap before rigor mortis set in.
The later investigation will show that Nikki and Ian are exes before Nikki suddenly and inexplicably became fixated and attached to Bear. She’s telling everyone she’s relapsing, Bear showed no signs of caring about her relapse during, and they all recount her suddenly freaking out and trying to kill herself the last time they all met. Some will even confirm the OD victim had no reaction as it happened besides frowning, and didn’t even look at her. Ian’s phone will confirm text messages from Sarah long after she died, but they’re not gonna be able to tell whether they’re from Nikki or Bear. They’ll also be able to search Sarah’s car and find the acceptance letter from Luther if not in the house if Bear took it with him. They find gunpowder on Nikki AND Bear’s fingers (Bear man handled that damn gun during his suicide pondering). Even if they drug test Nikki to see if she was drugged if she took anything in the last 6 months (unlikely since the whole group stopped doing drugs for at least a year by Sarah’s comment, and she relapses because her friend group is falling apart and she doesn’t think she’s getting into her art college). If that shit DID come back positive it would only help Nikki? I don’t think whether it comes back positive or not matters for the evidence.
The story that paints is Bear wanted Sarah, forced Nikki to play the girlfriend role for her, then when he found out Sarah was going to be leaving to art school he snapped and killed her. He then made Nikki dress up as Sarah and wear her hair and clothes out of regret. Ian came in to confront Bear (about Sarah’s whereabouts or as to where Nikki is and why he’s still keeping her drugged without helping her recover at all), and Bear executed Nikki’s ex to keep her. You can’t tell whether Bear or Ian died first so you have to assume Bear killed Ian then killed himself out of guilt for everything and loss of his love. (Which is also a really good point to the romance trope of “I was here the whole time”).
Now Nikki’s INTERVIEW and account of what happened? That’s gonna be the insane shit. I said in the last what happens after post that Nikki’s going to match all of the baseline descriptions and patterns of a hostage victim. We see touch screens in the film! Criminology started considering the psychology and patterns of killers and victims decades ago! Sarahs body alone and the nature of her being found stripped naked and presented while her cause of death is so insanely violent puts a crime of passion and fixation on the absolute top of the list for what’s going on. Too many people know Nikki and what she’s like to point to her being capable of doing I tout of jealousy for a rival love interest as much as Bear being the socially awkward guy who doesn’t have deep friendships snapping and killing the girl who he talks with the most.
Nikki’s account of things is that she asked her friend Bear who she knew was crushing on her to drive her home. She got in her house then everything went pitch black, she woke up outside and wasn’t acting like herself as she talked to Bear. She blacks out again. She wakes up naked and in BED with Bear and making out. She’s conscious during sex and can’t ask him to stop or do anything against him. At this point she’s mostly blacked out, she regains control at night and begs for Bear to kill her. She HEARS him walk away. Now every time she regains control she tries to kill herself because it’s so miserable to live terrified and flashing in and out of consciousness. Then suddenly she wakes up surrounded by her dead friends with a gun in her hand pointed to her head, and she finally feels full clarity alongside the fear of what’s going on
"One last wish.."
Au: You are part of the friend group, Bear calls you and explains what happened with him and Nikki, you help. Nikki's free but Bear? Not so much.
Now playing: "Sue me" by Audrey Hobert
CW: 2nd POV, GN!toxic!reader (you read the plot and i wrote this with a fem-presenting reader in mind bc i am). Bear being bear, this takes place after the party and before sarah dies, i dont like sarah but i dont like her dead either, ian being ian, possibly OOC and i apologize for that, manipulation, mentions of blood, self-harm, and drugs, possession, wish!nikki, I tried to make bear not as evil but its a man.
Pairing: GN!reader x Bear Bailey, Platonic!nikki x GN!reader, and references to Nikki x Ian.
Author's note: if you guys want more, put it in my asks or dm me! I haven't written fanfiction in like years so excuse my rusty ahh writing. I know the movie was based in 2024 but i like having brainrot humor, okay.. Btw this will be short bc i'm lazy and also i'm still getting used to writing.

You are part of the friend group, despite being friends with the four of them, you and nikki were the closest. The duo in a group of five, if you so please to call it.
That's the reason you knew something was up with Nikki and Bear. Nikki has always told you she only saw Bear as a friend when you two would hang out, but here you are. Watching- no - observing the both of them at work. She and Bear came to work together after trivia night and boom. Suddenly she's like all over him after being in a on-and-off fwb with ian. You had a feeling in your gut saying "hey pal.. this is weird as that one uncle's weird political views". But of course, you don't say anything. Why would you? They seem happy.
"it feels weird not seeing Nikki at work.. Kinda miss her." You said to Sarah. Nikki's two weeks ended so she doesn't come around to the shop anymore, which of course you felt sad about. Then Ian comes up to you two.
"I'm having a party at my house tonight, you guys joining?" He asked to the both of you.
You and Sarah agreed to go, why not. And things led up to Bear being invited, with the condition of Nikki isnmt allowed to tag along because of how weird she's being. Ian shrugged off Nikki's weirdness chalking it up to her taking Molly again but you knew she was sober for a while now, that made the alarm bells go off in your gut again.

The party is going without a hitch, people playing games, drinking, etc. Just like a normal adult party. That was until the couple finally came around, your dear friends Nikki and Bear. You saw Ian lowkey mad(?) and scolding Bear for bringing Nikki to the party after he said he wouldn't. Then you saw the downwards slope of the party atmosphere, Jenga moving Bear and Nikki to be seperated, him almost kissing Sarah, Nikki freaking out and bashing her head into a broken glass bottle like a woman possesed with some freaky ass ghost. The guys were yelling at Bear to help her but you got to her first and lifted her up, you barked orders at Bear and finally got to the ER. You and Bear both were trying to get help for Nikki as she just danced around, but the hospital wouldn't take her. You put her to sleep in the back of the car and sat on the hood with Bear.
"What the hell was that?!" You demanded for an answer.
"I-.. Promise you wont tell anyone else what I'm about to tell you?" He asked back with a guilty expression.
"Fine! Just tell me why is Nikki, my best friend, acting like a lunatic!" You kept your voice loud to not wake her but sharp enough to scare Bear.
"I may have used a one wish willow to wish she loved me more than anyone else..." He admitted to you which caused the chain reaction of you slapping his face.
"You did fucking WHAT!? You wished for that which led to her being possesed like that-?! this- She's losing her autonomy!" You said to him angrily, he didn't argue because he knew that you were right. "I'm reversing this wish. I'm not letting you do this to her anymore." You added on.

Bear drove you home and brought Nikki back to his house, his grandma's technically.
You paced around your house, you remember you had one of those one wish willow things as a gift from someone else you knew. You never opened it since you didn't know it worked until today, it was in your dresser. You sat on your bed and took it out of the dresser, you opened the box and took a deep breath before making your wish.
"I wish to help Nikki Freeman become free from Bear Bailey's wish." then *snap!*
In the morning you woke up to your phone buzzing, Nikki asking you if you're okay since she didn't know if you got home safe. You got your phone and got up to do your morning routine, you haven't gotten a text from her in while after she and Bear got together because of his wish. You also got a text from Bear saying they've broken up. You read that as felt.. happy? happy that theyve broken up?.. You didn't know but you felt this urge to see Bear for some reason, something was pulling you to him. You could only assume this was the wish you made, you wanted to help Nikki and you are. By becoming the one who's obsessed with Bear instead, but you didn't feel like you were trapped in your body but more like the few times you dreamt of someone and now you have a crush on them. It was weird. But hey, at least Nikki's free. That's all that matters right now besides the weird feeling that you lowkey want to pounce on Bear's ass.
bear spent his entire screentime (and probably life) not listening to the women around him. literally in the opening scene he dismisses advice given by the waitress helping him on her break!!!! and listens instead to ian, who tells him to call nicky freaky nicky, which we know later she doesnt like.
he doesnt listen to the saleslady when buying a crystal necklace (she suggests citrine and bear decides not to get a crystal necklace full stop) and also she warns him that people come back complaining about the one wish willows (interestingly, the opposite attitude the salesman has when bear comes in after sarah dies) and yet he still makes a wish
he ignores nickys disinterest in dating him (hence the movie) and he ignores her cries for help (countless times, but most prominently when shes screaming over the phone and when shes asking him to kill her just before sarah dies)
the information that nicky thinks of him like a younger brother comes from sarah and he dismisses it
every piece of information or advice that comes to him from a woman is discounted by bear and it results in his death (good riddance), the death of two of his close friends and permanent trauma for nicky
I find Nikki as a person distinct from the wish genuinely very compelling, just as a character. She apparently isn’t into sappy romantic gestures, and would find the idea of citrine being “sunshine in a rock” lame. At the same time, she’s not cold hearted. In fact, she’s openly very affectionate: she calls everyone she meets babe, jokes around with Ian, tells Sarah she loves her, gives money to the homeless, pays for her friend’s drinks, and thanks Bear for being someone she can talk to. She calls up Bear to talk about both their days and convince him to come to trivia night, then checks in to make sure he’s okay when she finds out why he didn’t want to come. Even though she’s not into sappy stuff, the book she’s writing is a love story. She’s straight up with Bear about the fact that Sarah’s into him and tells him in no uncertain terms when he’s crossed a boundary by calling her “freaky Nikki”. On the whole, the fifteen minutes we spend with her paint the picture of someone who is wholly genuine, and, it seems, someone who really values honesty. Which is why Bear messed up so badly by lying to her. All she asks is for him to be honest about if he has feelings for her, even says “now is the time to tell me” and he still can’t tell her the truth. And, she can clearly tell that’s the case. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter whether she would’ve said yes to a date because he didn’t ask. She might’ve gone. She might not have. But instead of risking her declining, Bear chose that he’d rather her be with him no matter the cost.
Nikki lacks so much autonomy in Obsession. Right off the bat with Bear and Ian in the dinner one of the waitresses is a stand in for her. Ian tells Bear to be “playful mean” to her by calling her Freaky Nikki, a nickname acknowledged by both Bear and Ian and later addressed by Nikki herself as a name Nikki hates. We never once see the inside of her house, she goes to Bear’s after the wish is made and she spends the rest of the movie living with him. The job isn’t just hers, it’s Sarah’s and Ian’s and Bear’s too. She wants to quit to be a writer but the only thing she ever writes is about what Bear is doing to her. She’s not even alone in her own mind, she has an obsessive double sharing her body that she only gets to control when She is asleep. Nikki wasn’t even ever Just Nikki, she was hooking up with Ian prior to being with Bear, and when Bear was trying to break his wish he said “Nikki can be yours,” as if Nikki ever WANTED to be with Ian after Sarah explicitly said the hook ups were casual and non romantic. Bear couldn’t even love Nikki as Nikki and she stole Sarah’s face to make Bear love her
