barrenunderground replied to your post: I could actually jump into…August Writes…for AU...
oh man this reminds of trying to do NaPoWriMo. i wrote three actual poems and a haiku before quitting.
Good luck! I look forward to seeing what you write, if you ever make it public! I personally wouldn't be able to do that myself I have little to no muse for poetry but I'm rooting you on nonetheless!
barrenunderground replied to your post: The issue isn't that only Jews have a pass to criticize Israel, but it is that YOU are a Gentile and as someone who is not Arab have no ethnic stake in this conflict, and therefore need to be very careful of what you say. It is akin to a cisgender person talking about trans* issues, a straight person talking about queer issues, or a white person talking about racism. If you are going to talk about Israel and the shit it pulls, you need to be careful of what you say. (cont)
oh whoops - i misread that post! going back, i see what you were saying. i thought it was saying something different, i apologize.
No, it's still a good point -- I do definitely need to keep an eye on where my place actually is.

(cont) antisemitism present in the antizionist movement - a movement that is basically ROOTED in antisemitism - has caused very large problems for the jewish community, not to mention the fact that Jews - especially young Jews - are trying to get more in touch with their Jewish identities. Israel has human rights violations, yes, but it is still the holy land for our people; this does not give it a pass, but it is still a land we feel connected to.
Okay, I can understand that! But that post was literally giving Israel a pass, centred around "god forbid I give it a pass". Like they were literally saying that that post was no longer important because that happened a year ago, when there've been other things more recently along the same lines -- staying focused on "but it's not all bad" on a post about blatant racism, where one of the arguments was "this happened in that year that people still forget it's not" (which relies on people forgetting/not knowing that it's still going on), seems pretty fucked up to me.
