AWESOME. There's a Dr. Demento documentary being made! You should kickstart it. If you are so inclined. But you should be.
Folk Wisdom Even Dozen Jug Band fiddle player and vocalist Maria Muldaur on the cover of the September 1964 Little Sandy Review. Published in Minneapolis by Paul Nelson and Jon Pankake and featuring musican/writers John Cohen, David Evans, Tony Glover and Al Wilson, the pioneering fanzine was revered for its devotion to traditional folk music, loathing of mainstream folk/pop and disdain for the protest song movement which led to an ongoing feud with the New York-based Sing Out! magazine. As folk faded the Little Sandy moved to Los Angeles with editor Barry Hansen and began to cover rock music: including an prescient and positive early review of Freak Out! by The Mothers of Invention.
