Burlington’s Sound of Music Festival once again showed fans what they are made of with a packed weekend of talent, great food and gorgeous weather.
Saturday’s sunny skies brought out thousands to Burlington’s beautiful Spencer Smith Park.
Doc Walker

My day started off by catching the mid-day headliner Doc Walker on the OLG Stage which was the home of the country lineup for the day. Doc Walker got the party started in the afternoon to a crowd that was singing and dancing the afternoon away.
The Ascot Royals

The next band I caught were The Ascot Royals who were playing on the TD Stage. When going to a festival I love nothing more than discovering a band I hadn’t heard before and falling in love with their music. This was The Ascot Royals for me. As soon as they started playing I was instantly impressed and couldn’t wait to add these guys to my playlist.

Since the festival I can’t even count the number of times I’ve listened to their “New Skin” EP which is one of the best EP’s I’ve heard in quite some time in my honest opinion. From the motivational and hard hitting title track New Skin to my personal favourites Tectonic and Best is yet to Come this band and EP is one you definitely want to check out. Their stage presence and incredible tight sound and chill inducing vocals have definitely made me a fan for life.
Barstool Prophets

Next up on the TD Stage was the Barstool Prophets which were a throwback to 90’s nostalgia, being born in 1990 I was a kid when these guys were touring so I really wasn’t sure what to expect. Everyone that surrounded me screaming and singing along when they took the stage just proves that when you make killer music, it maintains it’s relevance throughout the years.
The Road Hammers

Next up I ran down to the OLG stage to catch headliners The Road Hammers and of course in true Road Hammers fashion they put on an unforgettable show. The crowd was absolutely massive and The Road Hammers took notice and interacted and played off the crowd throughout their set filled with classics, favourites and new material.

It’s always so refreshing to see a band that cares so much about their fans and takes the time to get out and about in the crowd during the day and enjoy the festival as well, even if some people wouldn’t necessarily have spotted them in their costumes and wigs.
Moist

I capped my night off by heading back up to the TD Stage which by this time was flooded with people patiently waiting for headliners Moist to take the stage and i’m so glad I did. Keeping with the 90’s nostalgia theme Moist played an incredible set packed with hit after hit. I can’t say enough great things about this lineup and this festival and I look forward to see what 2018 will bring.

Sunny skies attract thousands to Sound of Music Festival Burlington's Sound of Music Festival once again showed fans what they are made of with a packed weekend of talent, great food and gorgeous weather.
It was another busy weekend in Ottawa with big shows happening around the city, and Barstool Prophets was also ready to leave their mark on the city scene with the sold out comeback show at Barrymore’s.
The band started their show with Expedition and Big Game Hunters, and for the first few songs, seemed to be just taking in the jam packed venue full of fans.
As the first half of the set progressed, the front man Graham Greer, guitarist Al Morier and bassist Glenn Forrester all seemed to get more relaxed, and the show went on with minimal chatter in between the songs.

Towards the end of the first set, the band put their own spin on the Tragically Hip cover New Orleans is Sinking along with blinding golden lights and the audience went wild.
For the last song of the first set, Greer tossed the guitar aside to play harmonica for Birdman, which was clearly the audience favorite so far, and got the whole venue singing along.
The band took a twenty minute break before continuing on their second set of the night.

Mankindman started the band’s second set continuing with The Ledge and Running Out, before Greer telling a short story about Robin’s Song, which he wrote at a Kingston venue’s parking lot just before hitting the stage back in the nineties. Greer was visibly enjoying his time on stage again and the crowd was loving it.
After a sentimental Peter Gabriel cover Solsbury Hill, Greer went on to tell the crowd about how he had met Forrester in high school to start what would be Barstool Prophets, and broke into Sunshine So Fine, which got the audience singing on top of their lungs, before continuing straight into one of the band’s biggest hits, Paranoia.

The band returned on stage for an encore first with just Greer and Morier to perform Time Flies, and finished the show with Short and Curlies and Thrusters.
Overall, after a bit of a stiff start to the show, the band completely redeemed themselves, and owned the stage for the rest of the night recreating their biggest hits for their fans, who were loving every moment.
You can see Barstool Prophets again at La Maison Tavern in Cornwall June 9th and 10th.

When four teenagers from Cornwall decided to start a rock band in the late eighties, they never imagined the success their band, the Barstool Prophets, would gain in North America just a few years later.

Barstool Prophets - Paranoia
I loved them. Saw them live in Red Deer in '98 when Wild Bill's was known as the Silver Bullet.
