Tag Game I was tagged for this by barthelmess! Thanks mate :) Rules: always post these rules; answer the questions given by the person who tagged you and give 11 questions for the blogs you tag and; tag 11 people
1) if you could travel anywhere, all expenses paid, where would you go? I would go to Florence, been in love with the city for years now.
2) who is your favorite comedian, past or present? I always loved Eddie Izzard until he turned into the worlds biggest Labour advertisement. Besides him, I love the Big Yin.
3) what food do you hate the most? Jelly. It’s not right. Food shouldn’t do that or feel like that.
4) do you follow any sports? If so, which sports and/or teams? Football - Heart of Midlothian/Scotland, always had a soft spot for both Benfica and Sporting Lisbon too. Rugby - Basically just the national/world competitions so I support whoever’s playing against England :p Ice Hockey - Chicago Blackhawks
5) Which David Bowie era do you like best? It could be musically, stylistically or a combo. If you dislike Bowie (or have no strong opinion) I’m curious about why. Hmm, tough one. Always loved the Thin White Duke from the style point of view.
6) floral prints or pinstripes? Years back I would have said pinstripes, but now, sitting here in my ‘James May Shirt’, I’ll go for floral prints.
7) what is your favorite museum? Of the one’s I’ve been to I’d have to go for Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum here in Glasgow, simply because of Dali’s Christ of St John...
8) do you cook? If so, what is your favorite recipe to make? I really don’t, it doesn’t end well.
9) What…is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow? Pretty darn speedy
10) describe your ideal day. What would you do? I’d be out filming for the college with my lecturers and a small crew of my favourite people in my class, then after that I’d kick back and have some relaxing, fun drinks with “The Posties” at The Last Post.
11) what are your thoughts on Jimmy Stewart? I can imagine that he was a lovely guy and he was great to watch on screen.
Thanks, that was pretty good!
I was tagged by barthelmess : My questions:
1) if you could travel anywhere, all expenses paid, where would you go? Disneyland, Florida. Lisbon, Portugal (what up calonari ;) ) Back to Iceland.
2) who is your favorite comedian, past or present? I don’t really have a favourite.
3) what food do you hate the most? Popcorn.
4) do you follow any sports? If so, which sports and/or teams? No, and no.
5) Which David Bowie era do you like best? It could be musically, stylistically or a combo. If you dislike Bowie (or have no strong opinion) I’m curious about why. That’s a bit before my time, but I grew up watching Labyrinth, so...Labyrinth-era David Bowie. Yes.
6) floral prints or pinstripes? Floral dresses and skirts.
7) what is your favorite museum? The Ned Kelly exhibit in the State Library of Victoria and the Ned Kelly Vault in Beechworth.
8) do you cook? If so, what is your favorite recipe to make? It was bacon carbonara, but I’ve been making a lot of changes to my diet recently, so this one’s off the menu for now.
9) What…is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow? What do you mean? An African or European swallow?
10) describe your ideal day. What would you do? It would be at Disneyland, any of them, and I would probably ride roller-coasters all day.
11) what are your thoughts on Jimmy Stewart? Harvey sure was a great film, am I right?
OH Q&A Time!

Rule 1: Always post the rules
Rule 2: Answer the questions the person who tagged you asked and write 11 new ones
Rule 3: Tag 11 new people and link them to the post
Rule 4: Let them know you’ve tagged them
……………………………………………………………………………………
1. who’s your favourite OH actress and why?
Katherine Hepburn! She was absolutely incredible as a person, especially for her time, and I love her voice. I don't think she was ever in a bad film. Alternatively, Grace Kelly or Audrey Hepburn for being so intelligent and beautiful.
2. what’s your favourite decade regarding movies ? Why in you opinion is it the greatest evaaaa?
Ohhhhhh man. I'm a big silents fan, so maybe the 20s? Alternatively, it has to be the 1950s - fantastic for animation *and* live action! Sunset Boulevard, Ben Hur, Some Like It Hot, Cinderella...
3. On the contrary, what decade do you think is the worst. Like there are maybe three good movies and the rest is just blaaaah
I'm really not into the 1970s in general. I know, I know, a lot of great stuff came out, like The Godfather and so forth, but in general it just doesn't do it for me.
4. what’s your favourite technicolor movie ?
How to Marry a Millionaire! The colour really shows off all the fashion and furnishings - it would be a much less glam movie in B&W.
5. whose filmography have you seen the most of ? What’s your favourite movie in that list ?
I think it's a tie between Richard Barthelmess and Buster Keaton, but since those were mostly silents and this is an OH questionnaire, I'll go with Audrey Hepburn. My favourite is definitely Charade!
6. what’s your opinion on the AFI greatest movies list ?
All lists are restrictive by nature, and I know there's plenty of films I would include that don't currently feature, as well as some I'd take off, but it seems like a good starting place for people who are interested in film but don't know where to begin. It's certainly not the be-all-and-end-all.
7. have you read any biographies/books about OH ? which one do you recommend?
Agh sooooo many. Douglas Fairbanks Jr's "Salad Days" is excellent, though for off-screen talent I love the biography of Frances Marion by Cari Beauchamp, "Without Lying Down".
8. Outside OH, have you ever watched classic movies from other countries ? Which one do you prefer ?
I am actually pretty illiterate when it comes to non-English-language cinema. Mea culpa! If we're including the UK though, my favourite is definitely (definitely definitely definitely!!) Kind Hearts and Coronets. It is the first movie I saw when I came to Britain and it's informed my understanding of the place ever since.
9. Do you watch silent movies ? Why ? (dumb question???) If yes, what do you think about the fact that most people reduce silent film to Chaplin ? (re dumb question)
Hahahaha, of course! I love that so much more hinges on the facial expressions and small gestures of the actors. Silent movies can be so hard-hitting and perceptive, and it's sad that it's all been reduced to people gurning wildly as they tie maidens to train tracks. I think a lot of the most enduring silent movies are the comedies, like Chaplin (so over-rated, he just doesn't do it for me), but it would be wonderful if the dramas got more love. And the romances!! Ok I'll stop now.
10. If you could choose a role in a movie, which one would it be?
Ah, decisions decisions. This question is essentially impossible. Off the top of my head - Ilsa in Casablanca, though I could obviously never be as good as Bergman.
11. Do you try to get your friends or family into OH ? Does it work ?
My family actually got me into OH, so they're to blame. My husband is less of a film person, and he can't stand Katherine Hepburn's accent, so it can be a bit hit and miss. He loves The General though, so maybe that balances out.
---------
Great questions! Here are mine:
1. In general, do you prefer colour films or B&W?
2. Who do you think is the most underrated OH actor/actress?
3. What about OH films most appeals to you?
4. What OH feature would you most like to see in modern movies, and vice versa?
5. What's your favourite song in an OH film?
6. Have you seen any early talkies (pre-1932 or so)? Which is your favourite?
7. How do you address racism and sexism in OH films?
8. What is your favourite Best Picture winner?
9. Who is your favourite OH director?
10. What is your favourite performance by a silent movies star in an OH (non-silent) film?
11. What OH film would you like to see remade by modern Hollywood?
I can't think of 11 people to nominate, so (if they want to do it, of course), I choose littlehorrorshop, haroldlloyds, barthelmess, nitrateglow and victorianoir.
You can tell a lot about someone by the type of music they listen to. Hit shuffle on your iPod, phone, iTunes, media player etc.. and write down the first 20 songs. Then pass this on to some people. Only one rule : no skipping.
I was tagged by Tumblr BFFs dustyanswer and barthelmess! I would provide a disclaimer that my iTunes doesn't have all of my music on it, and I tend to buy actual physical CDs, so there may be a lot of weird B-sides. So with that in mind, here goes.
Kings of Leon - The Bucket
Joanna Newsom - Kingfisher
Dan Sartain - Replacement Man
Joe Cocker - You Can Leave Your Hat On
Coldplay - Major Minus
Elvis Presley - Love Me Tender
Kings of Leon - Milk
Placebo - Without You I'm Nothing
The Wailin' Jennys - Racing With The Sun
Florence + the Machine - Hurricane Drunk
Juliette and the Licks - Killer
Matchbox Twenty - Cold
Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra - Spartacus Suite
The Wailin' Jennys - One More Dollar
Florence + the Machine - Dog Days Are Over
The Verve - Bittersweet Symphony
Kasabian - Butcher Blues
Bruce Springsteen - Without You
The Killers feat. Lou Reed - Tranquilize
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Deja Vu
Oh man, the no skip rule killed me. Whoever would like to do this is obviously welcome to it. Clear out the skeletons in your musical closet before though...
I know the story behind 1, but tell it anyhow. Also 3 & 9.
1. The meaning behind my URL: It came from an early 30s screwball comedy - possibly Love Is a Racket? I actually can’t remember for sure. Anyway, there’s a newspaperman trying to get in to see someone important, and a sassy blonde receptionist who won’t let him, and at one point he gets really frustrated and says, “Listen, you tell that peroxide pirate-” And I think he gets interrupted and can’t finish his sentence. So the first time I saw it, I cracked up. As a pirate-obsessed girl with bleached-blond hair, I decided immediately that was my new username. And since nobody else ever uses it, I’ve kept it.
3. Already answered! :)
9. Tattoos I want: SO MANY. I want a world map wrapped around my right arm, a compass rose on my shoulder, a skull with crossed knives on my left forearm, and commemorative paw prints for the dogs I have loved.
1-19 please! <3 but if that's not allowed, I'll choose 3, 8 (80s movies), and 17 specifically.
Haha!
Ok then.
3. Why I love my best friend: OH GOSH. She’s smart and interesting, and interested in so many cool things. And then she researches her obsessions and shares her enthusiasm, and that’s a large part of how I got interested in things like 1930s movies and tiny houses and Doctor Who and dog sports (agility and mushing and so on). She totally enables my geeky obsessions (for example, she got me black satiny pirate pajamas as a 4-months-early birthday present!) and listens to me talk about dogs/food/work/girls/sci-fi 24/7. She reminds me to calm down when I’m a giant ball of anxiety, and gently lets me know if I seem to be getting out of control in a mental health sense. She reminds me that I deserve nice things and I should stand up for myself if I’m being treated badly. IDK, she’s great and mostly I want to talk about her in enthusiastic run-on sentences. Plus she’s a great cook and an amazing baker and gives awesome presents.
8. Top 5 (insert subject): I’m really not an authority on 80s movies, so take this with a grain of salt. That said:
The Princess Bride
Return of the Jedi
Back to the Future
Drop Dead Fred
The Breakfast Club
17. A fact about my life: Ummmmm, okay. I know how to cook lots of things, and I like to cook, but a LOT of the time I end up just eating sandwiches or pasta. Because I like almost all food, and I would rather spend my time experiencing fiction or spending time with dogs or people I like, than spend it cooking.
Oh gosh. I got tagged on a thing!
Rules: answer eleven questions. Ask eleven questions. Tag eleven people. Them what answers the call does the same as the blog that came afore them.
Questions from diereklamation:
Chocolate and peanut butter, or chocolate and mint? Tough choice, but peanut butter wins. Nom.
What is your favorite foreign language film, and why? Sad to say, I haven't watched enough foreign language films to be able to answer this. :/
What keeps you up at night? Anxiety. Mostly about work and/or finances. Sometimes worrying about friends or family members or relationships.
Have you gone to college, and if yes, what was your experience like? If you haven’t, what led to that decision? Yes, twice. The first time was a great adventure for like two years, and then I realized I was broke and in debt and didn't want to have a career in any of my prospective majors, so then it kind of sucked, and eventually I dropped out. The second time was culinary school, about 5 years later, and I loved it even though it was a ton of work. It wasn't really the traditional college experience because I was totally career-focused throughout, both working in my field and studying. I basically thought only about cooking for 2 years straight.
What is your favorite fantasy novel or series? OH GOD HOW DO I CHOOSE. Possibly the Magids series by Diana Wynne Jones. Possibly The Deed of Paksenarrion by Elizabeth Moon. Possibly Protector of the Small series by Tamora Pierce.
What was your favorite book when you were eleven years old? I think it was Eight Days of Luke by Diana Wynne Jones, or maybe Alanna: the First Adventure by Tamora Pierce.
Your house is on fire and you can only save three objects (not including any people or pets). What are they, and why? The scrapbook my mom and I made with pictures of the first two dogs Meg and I adopted (one of whom is now deceased), the external hard drive that contains like 200,000 words of (mostly fan-)fiction I wrote in 2010/2011, and the thumb drive that contains all the recipes I wrote during the past 5.5 years. Hmm. Should probably back that shit up online or at my mom's house or something.
Ham or turkey? No thanks? I'm mostly vegetarian, although I eat turkey once in a while, I so I guess turkey.
Do you believe in a higher power? (Whether or not you call it “God” is up to you!) Yes. I also believe I don't have the capacity to understand God or whatever it is, so I consider myself agnostic.
When did you own your first mp3 player, and what kind was it? A Sansa Fuse in 2009. I break my toys so I'm not allowed to have an iAnything.
Why in the hell did you read this far? Because I like you, Nora, and this game is fun!
My questions!
If you could go anywhere in the world right now, where would you go, and what would you do there?
What's your all time favorite TV show?
If you were a superhero, what would your super power be?
If you could go back in time and talk to yourself at age 8, what would you say?
What's your favorite food?
When did you last go outside and what kind of shoes did you wear?
If you could live in any fictional universe, which one would you pick?
What color are the walls in your room?
Is your family excellent or terrible or some combination?
When did you start using Tumblr?
What book should I read next?
I tagged some people below! But if you're not tagged and you want to answer, go for it! And if you are tagged and you don't feel like playing, no problem. :)
