Barton Hills are situated southeast of the village of Barton-le-Clay in the English county of Bedfordshire. This National Nature Reserve is important for its chalk grassland habitats and associated plants and animals. The chalk downland includes a wide variety of scarce invertebrates and plants, many of which are characteristic of the Chilterns. These include plants such as fragrant orchid, woolly thistle, clustered bellflower and cowslip. A wide range of butterflies can be seen during summer, including chalkhill blue, green hairstreak, small skipper and marbled white. There are a number of footpaths throughout the Barton Hills, and I recommend starting from the Public Bridleway at the end of Church Road and following round to the top of the hills where you will be treated to stunning views of the Bedfordshire countryside.
