The Working Girl: She'Neil Johnson, BASE BUTTER
Let’s meet the girl behind the brand, Base Butter.
While working at a tech company, She’Neil saw the need for a specific kind of need within the beauty and skin market. She look that leap and started her own. Launched in 2015, Base Butter is the skincare line everyone needs in their medicine cabinets.

What does being a Working Girl mean to you
To me, being a Working Girl is taking control of your career. Whether that means you work out of an office 9-5 pm, are an entrepreneur or in school you are full aware of your purpose, what you bring to the table and demand your worth.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced in your career?
My biggest challenge has been finding my voice both when I working in corporate and as CEO of BASE BUTTER. I am not shy but I tend to stay in my head a lot, protect my energy (aka not let the little things get to me) and just trust the universe to work things out. This system though was actually hurting me. At my corporate job, me not expressing myself vocally allowed others to define me. As CEO of BASE BUTTER my team demanded that I #bossup, they really did say this lol, and truly lead. So, In both situations I had to speak up to set the tone on how I wanted to be addressed, communicate my expectations and lead those on my team to success.
What Keeps you going? The best part of your job.
Our community! I love interacting with our customer face to face at events, reading feedback and growing day by day with them.
What advice would you give others pursuing the same career?
Don’t waste time doing what you think you should be doing. Do what you WANT to do! Trust me, waking up every morning will become so much easier if you do the latter.

To think and act like a CEO. The thing I ignored for the longest in my business were the finances. Every week I would be like I’ll get to it later, hired an accountant to take over when I realized I never was going to “get to it” and was funding my business with my pockets. This year I realized the only way for BASE BUTTER to scale is if I paid attention to the numbers, guided my team with goals based on those numbers and stepped out of my comfort zone to find capital for BASE BUTTER.
