This study is conducted by Elizabeth Acree, an MA student of Anthropology and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Brandeis University. Dr. Keridwen Luis, Lecturer in Anthropology and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies is overseeing the research.
This study examines whether sexism and queerphobia (which includes homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, and other forms of prejudice against members of the LGBTQIA+ community) presented in a fandom’s source material is reproduced, reproached, or ignored by fans.
We are also interested in how fans incorporate or refuse to incorporate sexism and queerphobia into how they present themselves online. How does this affect the formation of communities and the reproduction of power hierarchies within online fandom spaces?
If you are eighteen years old or older and self-identify as a fan of the K-pop group ATEEZ and/or the CW’s TV show Supernatural (2005), you are eligible to participate. It should take approximately 15-25 minutes of your time.
