4. what seemingly insignificant memories stuck with your character?
Sam has a bunch of memories of his childhood spent with friends that are still in his life and will probably continue to be forever. He remembers bike rides through the town on warm summer days and long nights spent outside long after their curfew, just small glimpses of a life that felt much lighter and easier, even with the restrictions that came with his family name. He cherishes them and thinks of them often, especially when he hangs out with those who are closest to him. There are also fond memories of him and his mom stored in the back of his mind but he tries to keep those locked away to keep the hurt at bay. Yet, he remembers them baking and cooking together a lot when he was a kid and bringing batches over to neighbors and friends at random, just as a sweet kind of gesture, referring to him as her very own delivery service and he remembers feeling so proud every time.
10. what does your character pretend or try to care about?
While Sam isn’t all that good at caring about anything in general, or at least comes across that way often, he does try to care about other people’s feelings a lot more than he used to. It’s not him pretending usually but genuinely trying – he just doesn’t always succeed. He knows, deep down, that it’s a defense mechanism he developed over time. One he doesn’t really care for so he is doing his best to be more empathetic.
12. what is your character afraid of? what scares them the most?
Losing someone he loves again. As much as he pretends not to care, he holds those he trusts and admires close to him and it would destroy him to know one of them got hurt, let alone one of them left him for whatever reason. The abandonment issues are strong but he’s mostly just worried for their well-being and safety or worries they might just not want to deal with him anymore at one point. He couldn’t bear a loss like that ever again after his mother’s passing.
13. what is a secret your character has never told anyone?
Sam is rather shameless in all he does so he doesn’t have any more secrets to share – the town knows most things anyways and people talk, he knows all about that having grown up in the town’s community and around Sunstone Beach. A thing he doesn’t ever share though, not even with his closest friends, is just how deeply he sinks into his sadness when he’s by himself. He also would never admit that this is why he tries to keep himself up and occupied more often than not.
