@basiacat replied to your post: So it looks like some music companies have started...
is there a reason people don’t want to link straight to youtube playlists? i know you can make them unlisted, add a title and description, etc. plus if you use content uploaded and licensed by the artists (vevo, official accts, etc) then it’s a way of giving back to the artists - so i don’t really know what i’m missing about youtube being a last resort…? aside from not being able to upload an “album cover”
Oh, it’s not a bad option by any stretch, it’s just that a) it doesn’t give you an album cover (though you could obviously still make a tumblr post with one) and b) more critically, I think, it doesn’t offer any real means of feedback, e.g. likes and comments.
The nice thing about Playmoss is that while you’re pretty much just funneling youtube or soundcloud content through it, you get an 8tracks-like interface that allows feedback. I am always in favor of using music legally--it was what I liked about 8tracks, and even in my youtube/playmoss playlists I’ve used vevo and official versions as much as possible.
But if the legal versions don’t work on playmoss because the companies don’t want them funneled through a third-party site then that does pretty much defeat the purpose of said site.
