Facebook Going to Remove Gray Verified Badges from Pages Later This Month

Facebook is now removing the gray verified badges from page meant to show Page authenticity later this month. FB Business Page owners will begin seeing notices via their Page by this week.

The grey badges, which were gained via a claim process, were mostly used by SMBs (small and midsize business) to prove their Page’s authority. “Based on user’s feedback, we’re going to remove the verified gray badge and focusing on other ways for all businesses to prove their authenticity on Facebook,” said a Facebook spokesperson.

Facebook displays the Verified Badge on verified FB Pages to notify visitors that it has been confirmed. Also, having a verified badge on profile also lets visitors know the Page is genuine and approved. The gray Badge is for ‘Local Businesses or organizations’ & The blue Badge is for Pages that represent ‘author/people, sports, media, entertainment, and government’. Now that Verified badges from business page are being removed from the platform, Digital marketers will need to put onwards more effort to verify their Page’s authenticity - and make sure as any other Pages that claim to be connected to their company.

The decision was based on users’ feedback as they were unclear what the gray badge represented, Facebook spokesperson said. Note: This update will only apply to gray verified Page badges. Keep in Mind that Facebook’s blue verified badge for public figures, media companies, entertainment and brands will remain.
