New Moon Ritual

For new starts and reboots

A white candle

Place the crystals around the candle and light it.

Visualize all the changes you want to see in your life in the next days, weeks, month. Think about your upcoming projects and even those hard times you might have to face. Keep a positive mindset throughout the ritual to attract positive energies. Ask for anything you believe in (the Universe, the Moon, any deities) to help you take these new steps, make those changes.

Snuff out the candle and say "Thank you"

(And go have a piece of dark chocolate if you enjoy it)

That's my first time sharing a complete, personal ritual. It's quite basic, but simple things are the best to me.

I don't have a real altar rn so I use a grey sheet, it's a neutral, balanced color.

Kitchen/eco-friendly witch tip : old jar lids are perfect to hold large candles.

(Oh, on a side, adorable note : this candle is from a set of different-sized, large, white candles my lover brought me from Ikea the other day "for your rituals". Could he be more perfect?)

Basics of Spell Casting

Define Your Desire Get specific! Journal about it, do shadow work, consult your tarot deck, etc. Dig into why these are your desires. What do you want out of this? How will it come about? How much resistance are you facing? Can you sustain this? Imagine how attaining this goal will work within your reality. Create Your Spell Research is key here. Now that you know your specific goal, figure out the best method to use; the best will be one that speaks to your specific purpose. Decide what correspondences you are going to use; entities, materials, colors, scents, herbs, stones, etc. How will you utilize each with a specific purpose within the greater framework of the spell? Find purpose for each unique element.  Plan  What moon cycle will you work within? Time of day? Day of the week? What will you wear? Do you require any music, substances, food, before, during or after your spell work? Figure out the specifics of your environment and the order you will do things in. Make sure to have all of your materials laid out and what you will need to attain a clear mind. Make sure everything is cleansed, charged and programmed for its intended use in advanced.  Cast Raise your energies, cast your circle and cast your spell

Simple Tips for Strengthening Your Powers

- charging your drinking water in the sunlight/moonlight

Wren’s Guide To Witchcraft #3: Basic Magick

Basic Magick (yes, with a ‘k’ at the end because it distinguishes Harry Potter magic and our magic) is what most beginners start out with. It’s easy to start doing and it helps them to adapt to a new lifestyle. Basic Magick can be anything from Sigils to curses, as this depends on the person and what makes tgem the most comfortable.

Personally, I started out by studying (for a few minutes at a time before I found 'cooler’ stuff) and then I jumped into divination.

You can start working on magick wherever and whenever or never. Today, I’ll be talking about spells because a lot of people like to start there.

Spells: Spells are easy. They look and sound complicated but spells are easy. Here are some rules to make them even easier:

Rule 1: You don’t need all of the ingredients, those are usually just helping hands, so don’t stress over that.

Rule 2: You do not need to buy spells. Okay? Never. Google them and if that doesn’t work, make your own (more on that in a bit.)

Rule 3: Other than glamours, there is no way to change your body or move things with a spell. This isn’t Harry Potter. This is real life and that would just bring chaos.

Rule 4: You don’t need a wand. I promise you can do spells without one. You can use one to help channel your energy but it isn’t required.

Rule 5: You don’t have to make your house into an altar to preform a spell. You can do it in your mom’s underwear while blasting Spongebob songs and it’ll work the same.

Rule 6: Don’t stress over how to do it. Just say the words and focus on a goal.

How do I make a spell? State your goal, focus on it and and maybe even rhyme. Example: “No Bad energy is welcome here, take your soul and leave my home”. That is one I used to banish a bad spirit. Haven’t heard from the spirit since then.

Some good spells to start with? Banishing bad energy. Protection spells. Monetary gain spells.

How to use cycles in your craft:

I am someone who uses a lot of cycles in my craft and use them for different spells and rituals. Here are a few I use:

The moon cycle:

You’ve seen it, you’ve read about it if you have a witchcraft book, and most likely use it now for your spells. The moon cycle refers to the different phases of the moon, from the new moon all the way to the full moon and back around. According to astrology, the moon is a water element. Meaning it is emotion, intuitive, and free-forming. So, use your intuition with what the different phases mean. Go with that feels right for the spell. The moon’s cycle can be used in many ways and has a phase that fits just about every purpose you will need.

New moon: planting seeds, pause, a cycles end, renewal, blank slate, reflection

Waxing crescent: beginnings, action, starting a process, moving

First quarter: choices, refining your process, journaling, discipline

Waxing gibbous: growth, abundance, expansion, good for material or tangible magic

Full moon: harvest, blooming, celebration, reaping what you sow, release, amplification, creativity

Waning gibbous: final harvest, letting go, release

Last quarter: surrender, self care, release, bring things to a complete end, organization

Waning crescent: rest, uncrossing, grounding, connection

The day cycle:

The day cycle refers to all the phases of the day from dawn until midnight.

Sunrise: beginnings, starts a new day, renewal, resurrection, cleansing

Morning: strength, building strength, courage, planning, activity

Noon: charging, health, physical or material magic

Evening: communication, clarity, exploration

Sunset: winding down, letting go, releasing

Midnight: rest, grounding, meditation

Planetary hours cycle:

The planets go through many cycles, their own rotation cycle, their own seasons, and their trip around the sun. Something I use with the planets is their association with the days of the week, but I use the planetary hours as well. For example, I will do love magick on Fridays, the day of Venus, but I will also do it on the hour of Venus that day as well.

You can use this website to know when the hours of the planets are, this website does use military hours, so if you don’t know it make sure to have a chart pulled up while looking at it.

Menstrual cycle:

If you are an afab person who gets their periods, you can use your own cycle in your magic. If you do not have a menstrual cycle or if you do not wish to use it in your magic, no worries! This is completely optional and doesn’t make you more or less powerful. From my experience the biggest benefit to using your menstrual cycle in your craft, if you choose to use it, is help with connecting to your craft. Which you can connect with your craft a million other ways. I personally use my menstrual cycle for a lot of things spiritual and non spiritual. For me personally, it is when I feel the most powerful in my craft, because I’m more aware of my body and everything going on with it. I use my cycle as a time for action and when I do the most important works for my practice. Listen to your body, try to understand how your body reacts during this time and question why it is doing this. Remember, mundane before magical.

Warding and shielding for beginner witches; practitioners, and spiritual people

The third step in my four step protection ritual is warding and shielding. In this post I will talk about the what they are, why I separate them from protection itself, why you need to know how to do them, and how to do both.

What is warding?

Warding is something that you put up to help protect you or your space. This is usually in the form of sigils, salt rings, spells, false targets, etc.

What is shielding?

Shielding is something that is used to protect yourself and your energetic field rather than a space. This can be both physical or energetic.

Why I separate the two?

I separate the two because it is easier for me to understand. Warding I see more as something on the physical and is used to help protect ourselves and our space, PROTECTION WILL NOT SAVE YOUR LIFE PLEASE DO NOT USE IT AND PUT YOURSELF IN DANGER PROTECTION WILL NOT SAVE YOUR LIFE, while shielding works more on the energetic and metaphysical fields.

Why you should know how to do both.

You should know how to do protection because it something that is going to keep things you want out, out. And things you want in, in. It will also help keep your space clear and safe. Think of it like this, cars have crumple zone so when they get hit or get into an accident you don’t absorb all the energy and get hurt worse or have a fatal crash. Same idea with protection, you habe protection absorb all/most negativity or attacks from spirits, other practitioners, and entities. Even if your wards and shield don’t stop all of the energy or attacks, it sure as hell will cushion the amount that you do get the receiving end of. It might also heighten your intuition to help put your physical self into better situations and make better decisions and better situational awareness. But remember, protection will not save your life. Do not put yourself in dangerous situations because you have black tourmaline in your pocket, black tourmaline or any protection spell will not save your life. 

How to ward:

Here are a couple ways I ward. You can use your own intuition and methods that work best for you. But, here are a couple that I use for myself :)

--❥ 🛡 Protection sigils, I might put these on my mirrors, in my plants, in the corners of my room with crystals.

--❥ 🛡 Protective crystals,I use crystals like black tourmaline, black onyx, black obsidian, clear quartz, gold and iron pyrite, smokey quartz. I will cleanse and charge these and put them in the corners of a room, by my door to absorb non beneficial energy, under my mattress to protect me while I sleep, etc. 

--❥ 🛡 Plants, some plants have protective properties and can be used for protection when given the intention to.

--❥ 🛡 Salt and herb lines, I will use salt and herbs with protective properties and I will sprinkle this around doors and windows. 

--❥ 🛡 You can also do protective energetic work and protection spell bottles or another way.

How to shield:

I mostly work on an energetic field when shielding. Sometimes, I will do shielding on the physical though. Here are a couple ways I shield :)

--❥ 🛡 I do shielding meditations. I will sit for a couple minutes in a calm and quite environment. Then, I will imagine a light shield forming around me. This can be made out of just light, rocks, vines, leaves, plants, a house even. I set the intention of it to keep anything and everything that is not my energy out. I will also rub my hands together and feel the heat and energy build up between them, I will then use my hands and go around my body is bubble shape.

--❥ 🛡 veiling. I will wear something like bandanna, a headband, etc. something that will protect my hair and head from absorbing others’ and places’ energies.

--❥ 🛡 Protective or cleansing jewelry, crystals, sigils, etc. Anything used in warding can be used for shielding. I will use mostly protective jewelry that had been charmed for protection to protect my energetic field.
