Not long to go now before the public playtest of Seasons of Magic begins! Here's a preview of the Incantations chapter ahead of its release in June (that gorgeous little divider is by Alderdoodle!)
Seasons of Magic is about a coven of witches healing the land and its inhabitants with the aid of their familiar spirits. This game is built on the basic roleplaying system and was a 2024 winner of the Basic Roleplaying Design Challenge!
Drakar och Demoner (“Dragons and Demons”) was published by Äventyrsspel (“Adventure Games”) in 1982, becoming Sweden’s first and biggest fantasy RPG, set in its own world of Ereb Altor. The first edition began as a translation of Chaosium’s Basic Role-Playing and included anthropomorphic ducks borrowed from Glorantha and Runequest. It has grown and changed through many editions over the decades. The publisher rebranded as Target Games and introduced the dark fantasy realm of Chronopia in the ‘90s, later spun off into its own miniature wargame. RiotMinds published several editions in the 2000′s, one translated as Ruin Masters in 2019. In August 2022 Fria Ligan / Free League launched a new Kickstarter for an edition of Drakar och Demoner with an English translation as Dragonbane.

OpenQuest Basic Edition - OpenQuest Basic edition is a small compact version of OpenQuest
What would Sharpie ButtsAlot look like as a Basic Roleplaying character? Maybe a little something like this. (Just an approximation. I had a fillable a Legend RPG sheet so I used it for the sake of convenience. The spells are straight from BRP 4th.) This is based on the D&D 5th edition character sheet of him as a 6th Level wizard that's on the web. I’m sure he leveled up before they left off the campaign.
The recent Harmontown bigfoot rpg scenario has convinced me to mention a thought that’s been rattling around the back of my head. I think they should consider using BRP to run their games. Mainly because it’s percentile based and even someone who has never gamed before knows what it means to have a skill like “Climb 67%.” The other reason is that it can handle most genres. Fantasy, horror, science fiction, even super-heroes. Obviously it’s ultimately up to Spencer to decide what system to use, but I think he could do worse than BRP.
