026: Headcanon about Amycus
1975.
A fifth-year Slytherin girl was holding her notebook carefully as she wrote down a name.
Amycus Carrow.
—————————————
1971.
“Andromeda, what do you think of Amycus?” asked one second-year who was sitting next to her at the dining table.
Andromeda was still in her first year, and she was quite confused why an older girl was talking to him. The things that being a Black could do to your social status was still unknown to her.
“Erm,” she began to say. “I don’t… think of him much, really.”
“But, he’s your friend, right?” the girl pressed on. “You grew up with him.”
“Yeah, but - “
“Don’t you think he’s just so incredibly attractive?”
Andromeda looked down the table to look at Amycus. He spotted her and gave her a small smile. She smiled back. “Er, no?”
“Oh, you wouldn’t understand. You’re too young,” she said, shaking her head. She then sighed, looking almost enviously at Andromeda.
The girl was wrong. Well, eventually, she was. Because Andromedawould understand. She would understand quite well just how attractive Amycus Carrow was.
—————————————————
1973.
“Hey, Andy,” came a voice from behind her. She turned around to see Amycus running up to her. She tried not to blush. She was a third year now. She knew all about social statuses. And girls with statuses like her do not blush. Even when faced with a terrible crush on a boy.
“H-hi, Amycus,” she said, only giving him a nod before walking again.
He walked beside her, and then he deftly grabbed all of her books from her arms. “Let me carry that for you.”
“Okay,” she said, her heart filling up with some curious uplifting feeling. Her stomach, on the other hand, was in knots. “Erm, thanks.”
“Don’t mention it,” he said, flashing her a smile that didn’t help in making the feeling in her stomach go away. “Anything for you, darling.”

1975.
Andromeda slowly drew a line over his name.
Amycus Carrow.
“Do you miss him?” asked Bellatrix over her younger sister’s shoulder. Her voice made Andromeda jump and drop the notebook she was holding.
“Who?”
Bellatrix rolled her eyes. “Don’t play dumb.”
Andromeda sighed, leaning down to pick up the notebook. “Yes, I do. It’s quite normal to miss a friend. It’s been what - a year? - since we’ve last talked to each other.”
“When are you gonna realize and accept that you like him more than a friend? More than a silly crush?”
“What?”
Bellatrix shrugged and pointed at the notebook in Andromeda’s hand. “You don’t write friends’ names on private little notebooks. You don’t cross them out if they’re just a crush.”
Andromeda pursed her lips, looking away from Bella and spotting Amycus in the far corner of the common room.
“And,” the elder sister added, “you most definitely do not look at them like that… if you’re not the least bit in love with them.”
Andromeda’s eyes snapped back to Bellatrix. She wanted to correct her and explain that what she was saying was false. It was as if Bellatrix was daring her to.
“I’m not - “
Bellatrix scoffed before she could even finish. “Lying was always your weakness.” She gave Andromeda a pat on the head before walking away.
Andromeda watched her go. She felt her head turning back to look at Amycus. But then her sister’s words echoed through her mind. Why must Bellatrix always be so right about her? Although, there was one thing Bellatrix got wrong. It wasn’t lying that was her weakness. Not really. Facing the truth was.
