Absolutely. Ry's grumpy - which of course makes him seem unapproachable, and he struggles to make friends from it - but he has a kind heart and goes with the flow in any friendship when that first barrier is overcome.
He'll listen to people and do his best to help them when they need it, and I think since Aerin is also compatible with Julius, it means as his partners they'd have enough qualities and ideals they'd agree on to be besties if they talked about it with one another.
Ofc I don't know much about Aerin yet, but if they don't hate him or think he's weird for being quiet + ignores his eyes in their initial meeting, then they'd totally have the potential to like being around each other, and indeed hang out! :-)
When I read that they paint their nails to stop from biting them, this interaction popped into my head so I doodled it lolol 🫶

Okay so because this ended up being kind of long I decided to make it a mini OC ramble so it wasn't just an ugly wall of text. 🚶♂️

Who are people allowed to ship Ry with?
Anyone! His orientation is only aroace spec - so while the levels of romantic attraction and such he experiences may be scarce, gender isn’t a factor for his preferences in dating others - thus any character within reason can fit.

What are my boundaries?
I think it goes without saying that I don’t want characters who are minors to be shipped with him. 😭
But outside of that, the only true preference I have is for OCs that are under 30 to not be shipped with his older design where he goes rogue following Julius’ death (I haven’t drawn it much anyway, but still).
This is just because I’m not the biggest fan of huge age gaps due to the distance in maturity level. His age when that happens is 43/44 (and then onward) - so like that’s already a 13/14 year gap at a minimum. On that note, I’d also prefer if OCs under 25 were only shipped with his Grey Deer self for the same reason of there being a potentially large age gap.
It’s just a personal preference, since Ry is a very self-indulgent character to me, and there’s been some historically bad situations in my irl family when it comes to large age gaps - and I just don’t want to associate him with that kind of thing. 🫶
I want to note that aging up OCs that are already adults to match his age if you want to make interactions at older stages is perfectly fine - since this would be an AU of an AU anyway - but yeah, that’s the only thing I can think of which would bother me a little for now. 🤔

What are Ry’s boundaries?
He’s not really a clingy soul, but he’ll do anything his partner wants to so long as he consents to it.
He’s not really the type to initiate full on explicit affection - like hugs and kisses and such - unless he’s saying goodbye or goodnight, but he will initiate holding hands, ruffling his partner’s hair, or leaning on their shoulder and things (especially when he’s tired since he’s in a more affectionate mood then).
He doesn’t especially like being held from behind or crushed since it makes him feel weak/helpless - but so long as he has the reassurance he can get away immediately if he wants to, he may like it sometimes.
Just to give an example of this - another character running up to him and tackling him into a hug is fine (as he’d be happy they’re pleased to see him) so long as the second he gives them a nudge to get off, they would let go and do just that immediately. 🙂↕️

Is there anything I’d like to see?
Initially I was thinking that there was nothing in particular that stuck out to me, but when I read the ‘and/or writing’ from this ask I hadn’t even considered that being an option of things people would want to do of him. 😭
Writing takes a lot of time and I know from experience I’d be worried about mischaracterisation - so this isn’t me saying ‘GUYS PLEASE DO THIS’ - but honestly if anyone does, know that I’ll be pleasantly surprised, give you a massive high five cuz that’d just be so entertaining, and I’d read it regularly.
So long as Ry’s pretending to be grumpy but keeps accidentally smiling around his partners, you’re probably getting his character right lmao.

Honestly outside of anything I haven’t already mentioned, there isn’t something that comes to mind which I would be opposed to people doing.
Any content of Ry with anyone makes me incredibly happy, so I guess so long as he isn’t being horrifically abused / abusive then I’m okay with any stuff people come up with. 😎

Ry's Likes / Dislikes
Low-key I never realised I haven't really shared mundane information about him like that before, so now I need to catch up with it cuz DAMN???
Likes:
Organising things - Ry really likes to shuffle around stuff based on whatever criteria he can come up with - it keeps him busy and the final outcome of everything being orderly and where it's convenient to find is satisfying. Organising papers is how he and Julius find ways of spending time together anyway - in addition to it bringing back memories of how they first properly met - so that adds on to the enjoyment he gets out of it.
Going to the library - he used to hate reading because it would make his eyes tired, but one of the first times he goes out with Julius they go to a library and read cringe romance novels - which becomes a core memory for him, so he starts to go more often as it makes him think of him.
White noise - it calms him down no matter how upset he is, like the second a monotone hum or rain patters on the window he'll stop crying in an instant and his emotions will level out.
Sleeping - he loves sleeping because it means his eyes arent being strained and he gets to relax them - thus they don't hurt as much and his vision can't upset him since he doesn't need it. It's also usually when he and Julius can be together for the longest, so that's an additional bonus to the activity.
Drawing - Ry picks it up after Julius leaves to be Wizard King since drawing him is a way of getting to see his face more often. He isn't really an expert at it, but since he still has ties with the deer when he becomes an attendant he visits Rill sometimes and sits in on informal classes from him to get better.
Plushies - he thinks they're nicer to hug than people most of the time since he only ever has to give them attention when he wants to, as well as the fact they're comfortable and cute to collect.
Chronovala - initially, during the period where Julius had recently become Wizard King and Ry had stayed in their squad, Julius used his transformed alias as her in order to spend more time with him outside of his duties (alongside looking for more magic of course). He never actually told Ry it was him though, because he liked how he'd dote on him as he assumed he was an old and respectable woman. As they hung out more, Ry viewed Chronovala as good friend figure and would tell vent to her about various things in his life - like wanting to join Julius in the capital as his attendant, but was afraid of being so publicised. So he trusts her and enjoys her unusually grounding presence (he does find out eventually that Julius and her are the same person. While at first he's distraught because this meant all the things he told her in confidence about his insecurities with his relationship had been revealed to Julius this whole time - it had meant their bond was better since their communication was unintentionally improved, and he later comes to just find it funny that Julius likes to be an old lady sometimes and is grateful it happened anyway since it's what gave him the push to accept a position in the castle).
Exploring with Julius - sometimes he'll join Julius on his voyages to look for interesting magic, since they can just chat while they're wandering around (and he can also make sure he's safe without Julius resisting in the way he tends to with Marx). It's like their ideal date because it's usually outside of crowds and doesn't involve drinking.
Dislikes:
Loud / busy environments - on the subject of the previous bullet point, his other senses like touch, smell, and hearing are heightened because he can't always rely on his eyes. Therefore, he's more sensitive to the bustle of being in places with lots of people and voices, and prefers to avoid it as much as possible.
Bright places - again because of his poor eyesight bright places are uncomfortable for him since the light makes it hard to see, and squinting all the time makes his face hurt - so he tries to avoid it as much as possible (in my head Julius made some ugly sunglasses for him to wear - which on the one hand helps, as it obstructs people's view of his shaky eyes so they don't notice it all the while helping with the brightness of the sun - but on the other hand people still give him funny looks because the glasses themselves are so ugly 😭😭😭).
Alcohol - he thinks the taste is overrated, and he also doesn't like being around people who are drunk - it just makes him uncomfortable for lots of reasons (this is why Julius compliments him so well, since he has such a high tolerance for it - so even though he'll go out for drinks with his squad and such, he won't ever come home acting weird and is ultimately his safe person).
Crêpes - he doesn't have much of a sweet tooth - especially with pancake-like things and fruits, so it's one of his least favourite deserts. This is relevant since Julius' favourite food is sweet crêpes, so whenever the latter is stuffing his face with them Ry just side eyes him from afar and is put off of his own food 😭 (he'll sometimes make them for Julius, but the sweet scent makes him gag - so it's a particularly special occurance when he does that as an act of love for him).
Classist people - Ry has a deep seething hatred for all the nobles that treat commoners differently just because they are commoners. As I've said before it makes him hostile towards new recruits in the deer, because not only are most of them like that - they're also mostly children, so they certainly have no right to brag about themselves when they have no experience in the real world.
Staying up late - a bit of a random one, but like me Ry's big on sticking to a nightly and morning routine very rigidly. It's mostly because it reassures him he won't be as tired in the morning (so his eyes won't shake a lot), but it also means he can avoid people he doesn't want to talk to, and have alone time by going 'sorry, got to go to sleep.' The exception to this is waiting for Julius to finish work, since he struggles to sleep without him in close proximity subconsciously anyway.
Sharing responsibilities - Ry's very particular about ensuring chores and such are done properly, so he prefers to do everything himself and struggles to rely on other people he's living with to do certain tasks. Julius isn't a messy person and cleans up after himself just fine most of the time, but Ry does a bulk of the chores in their household - especially later on since tending to the wizard king is essentially his job, so he uses that as an excuse to when on duty.
