“Sure I may be the one who dreamt up the Walls and the Bastion, but the Kid made em real. Not me.”
"Now The Kid sees somethin' stranger still; his mind races.
Did anyone else survive?
Sure enough, he finds another. He finds me."
“Once there was a normal Ura girl. But she wasn't born in the Tazal Terminals like the rest of her people. She was from Caelondia”
“so build that wall and build it strong, cause we’ll be there before too long”
The Ura are a people set on the eastern end of the world of which the bastion takes place. A people with deeply held tradition and faith, the opposite of the caelondians who had fallen out of tradition, often making their gods more symbols and mascots (pyth being the primary example). They are a powerful people and arm themselves with a variety of weapons, ranging from halberds and the machete to rifles and repeaters.
These two stand at a choke point in the Tazel Terminals, saying their final prayers before they encounter the might of the caelondia . Someone who they can only think is there to finish the job that the calamity didn’t finish. All they were told by their new leader zulf is to stop the silver haired mason.
Next week, we flip the coin and have the masons. thank you all for your continued support!
"The Mancers not only theorized about the raw forces of the world, they developed blueprints for how to unleash them."
"The Mancers. They knew everything. Even if it cost 'em."
“They pushed the limits of knowledge and science in the name of the City."
Looking for an end to the raging war between the ura and caelondians, the mancers were an elite group of scientist tasked with finding a brutal end to the fighting, leaving caelondia the winning side and the tazal terminals in rubble. they Harnessed the power of the crystals and the earth itself and used it as weaponry. The thirst for power is summarized in the raw ingredient used to upgrade the Calamity Cannon: Something wrong. This power is shown to be able to be put to good use, powering the bastion itself, but, instead it was planned as a genocidal means to rip apart the earth and send the tazal terminals into the sky. But, instead, something different happened. Thanks to a ura who was unwilling to see the blood of the innocent shed.
And yes, the two people here are exactly who you think they are
This one was a blast to do! I had the image solid in my mind for the past bit, and I’m glad bringing it into fruition was so much fun! Next weeks card will focus on the Ura! stay tuned!
"With these durable lightweight bows, Caelondian Breaker divisions reconnoitered the farthest reaches of the land in the name of their City."
Acting as a caelondian Special forces unit, the breakers where a group of bow masters that were renowned for their skill and precision in their field. If the Masons were the ground units paroling the wall and protecting the city, the breakers were a special forces focusing on precision, protecting the cities interests and fighting to keep it free against attacking ura forces.
in the game, this was my favorite weapon! getting in the rhythm of roll, charge, fire, roll and the satisfaction of landing powershot after powershot
Those who have followed since the start probably noticed that this one is a bit late. well, that’s because this was the third draft. I had a hard time preparing and getting a good feel for what I wanted the breakers to symbolize, and I had worked 2 out (one is another complete card) before coming up with this draft. and to be honest, I’m still not to sure about the outcome. Before the set is complete I’m thinking of re-doing a few peices and this will be on the list. Never the less, I hope you like it
next week I have planned out already. this one will be great, I promise!
"In time we charted the Wild Unknown, but we kept the name..."
The wilds are a overgrown tangle of thorns and vines crossing a large expanse, essentially filling the spaces owned by neither ura or cealondian. It is a brutal stretch of land, hosting many hostile species of both flora and fauna. The most interesting part is, that out of all the places remaining after the calamity, the wilds are the most in-tact. held together by the tangled vines. It would take strong men known as the Brushers , armed with the brusher’s pike, to fight their way back in among the savage creatures that lived here, especially the Anklegators that would make their nests in the dense vines
The wilds themselves, represent natures will and power. all the man made chaos and destruction swirling around it, before and after the calamity and it stands strong, and would continue to grow larger even as time passes. The creatures here are not flushed from the ground as servants rebelled, but instead are animals in their natural habitats. The wilds are truly the only place to have fully survived the calamity
This one was fun! the most difficult part of it probably was cropping it lol. I really wanted to pay homage to the feeling of your first encounter with an anklegator.
Next week is about my favorite weapon and the ones that would wield it: The breakers!
So, since my up-coming cards are going to be more grounded in the bastion world, I figured I should study some of Jen Zee’s stylization for the humans in the universe A few sketches later and this drunk Rucks came out. And I knew I had to finish it. This was a fun little experiment that showed me I really do need to streamline my process lol
Good ol’ rucks, Enjoying at least one of the 3 things he missed since the calamity
