"The Bat-Eared Fox is a canine species with ears big enough to hear a mouse fart ten miles away (source: I made it up). But seriously, their ears are so damn big because they live in the African Savannah and ears with big surface areas are good for releasing heat and cooling down blood vessels. Unusually for the canidae family, these guys are primarily insectivorous, and the ears also help to locate termites skittering underground. They’re not very large, standing about 12 to 16 inches tall (30 to 40 centimeters) at the shoulder."
