*✨Happy ten years’ anniversary!✨*

If you had told me fifteen years ago that a doll would make my life better, I would have been insulted. But as I sat with her in my teeny Kyoto apartment, her personality slowly resolved into the sweet, goofy, and somewhat old-fashioned Skuld we know today.

She became powerful medicine. I wasn’t diagnosed with ADHD back then so I was very self abusive. Mostly emotionally abusive, but physically, too. I couldn’t abuse myself in front of her and I began to change for the better. Who knew your doll can help you with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) before you even knew it was a thing?

People are often put off by her appearance. That’s okay! Skuld knows she’s scary. She’s a psychpomp. She helps people that die. Everyone has their own relationship with death (my Cherokee ancestors have Very Strong Feelings about death) and Skuld gets that. She just hopes that if people are going to scream and run that they leave their gummy bears behind.

It’s been about ten years since @robotsandfrippary made Skuld’s faceplate. She was made some time between October 30th and November 3rd. So this really is her birthday! Who knew that a dear friend would not just create a doll for me that day, but also improve my quality of life? Skuld was made with love and that love is received, magnified, and radiates out to everyone that she loves. If you are reading this, then you are part of the good medicine.

The lighting was otherworldly. I took the shot in a little cove off Auckland Harbour. It was morning and overcast, but it was also golden hour. There were occasional breaks in the clouds that cast golden rays onto the water that would reflect the colour up into the clouds.

I have another set of photos from July 2021 with Skuld’s default faceplate. I’ll post those, too.
