I'm writing a lil flirty fun boxing ring centered SMUT for my Established Relationship series because clearly I was inspired. Should have it done this week sometime!

He knows she loves watching him work out. Whenever he’s sweatin’ in her back yard he feels her eyes on him. Knows how turned on she gets.

And damn it if he don’t like puttin’ on a show.

Likes how it makes her all frantic and flustered in her need for him after. How she’s always harder, rougher, always digs her nails in that extra bit deeper. Like she wants to feel all the muscles she’s been watchin’ him work. Wants him to show her what he can do with them.

So whatever - maybe he told her he’d be done by 8 when he knew he’d still be sparring. Maybe he knew she’d come in to find him and get that fuckin’ look in her eye.

But shit, he’s not sure which one of ‘em is getting more worked up by the other right now. Just knows he’s distracted. Looking straight at her, forgetting his hands and the ring and his footwork, not payin’ attention to anything that isn’t Elizabeth tugging her silky dress up over her knees and biting down on her pink bottom lip - when Zeke lands a clean hit to his eye out of nowhere.

i also don't mean to be a dick, i just want to explain my pov. seeing someone naked doesn't have to be sexual, you're right, but i think that it's fair of me to say that seeing a man forcefully undress a woman and then just watch her naked when he has all the power (he's obviously stronger and probably has a gun) and theoretically could've done anything he wanted made me super uncomfortable

you’re not being a dick at all! I totally hear you and am in no way trying to imply having an emotional reaction to that scene is in any way invalid! my point is more, there’s a difference between a (again, valid) personal takeaway based on your mindset and experiences and an intentional thing the show is saying, and those are two entirely different things but a lot of people like to dress the former up as the latter.

the scene was complicated, no doubt, but I think it very, very clearly and carefully stayed all the way away from sexualizing it in favor of a ferociously loaded moment between two people with a deeply fucked up personal history. furthermore, I think it was an incredibly noteworthy scene bc for one of the first times in their relationship, beth was the one ultimately holding the cards.

you point out that rio could overpower her physically and likely had a gun on him, but I think that only underscores how significant it is that they blocked the scene to have him stepping all the way back and never once hinting at a gun. not only that but the camera work was so deliberately, carefully not male gazey, there were no lingering pans of beth’s body, it was all extremely, tightly focused on their reactions to the moment more than anything else and while those reactions were loaded as all hell, they weren’t sexual (we know manny has an expressive face capable of a thousand micro inferences and there wasn’t even the faintest hint of anything close to a leer or a suggestive eyebrow). those were intentional choices the show made to equalize the dynamic and stay balanced on the razor wire they were walking. obvs, this is just my opinion and ymmv but that was SUCH an ambitious moment to try and play out and I think they nailed it.

idk, like I said, I’m not trying to invalidate your feelings about it. my point was in reaction to people taking that scene and trying to paint rio like some kind of sexual aggressor bc that a) makes me super uncomfortable bc it’s applying hella negative stereotyping that (imo) wasn’t there at all and b) seems a little disingenuous considering there have been numerous instances of rio wielding FAR more power against beth throughout the whole show (including and possibly most especially during the ~golden era of s1 and 2) but those were like, idk, fine i guess?

all this talk of "beth choosing rio" reminded me of the ruby and beth 2x08 scene with the "i guess if its jay-z you take stan" "i have to" (paraphrased i don't remember exact wording). is rio officially beth's stan now?? i know the answer is no, but also consider this: in my heart, it's yes

ok the fact that we've gotten eps filmed during covid already with no significant change to beth's hair makes me think that the wig change will come after a time skip and that the theory that beth turns in rio and goes into witness protection in 4x05 and rio gets out and finds her in 4x06 is probably right

Ooo, I think it’s a really good theory! It would definitely mix up the show a lot too and potentially open up the story world in interesting ways. It would also function as a neat build on him revealing Marcus after Beth got him arrested the first time, haha.

I’m not sure if I’m personally convinced just yet? Beth still has her bangs in the 4.06 promo shots and she’s in the Paper Porcupine backroom in today’s behind the scenes photo which presumably is around 4.09. I tend to find the finales impossible to predict, and given 4.05 was going to be the s3 finale, I think whatever will happen will be pretty big!

As for the show, I’m realising the way I’m engaging with it now is much more fun? Much less anxiety, disappointment and overall trauma; just vibes and giggling at the craziness from the outside. Highly recommend ;)

same with annie and beth being jewish! at first i was like yay it's canon but then greg said no and annie said yes again?? maybe he said no bc she's non practicing?? that would be what makes most sense to me, seeing as obviously he'd know whether or not she's jewish but i can't imagine why annie would say she is if she's not

yeah!! tbh i don’t think the intention of the writers is that annie and beth are actually jewish. i think it was just supposed to be a comical moment where annie says something that spirals into an obvious lie but screw the writers! i’m choosing to believe that they are jewish and that greg is as well (isn’t zach gilford jewish? am i making that up?) but neither of them are practicing so the idea that annie met someone at/going to a synagogue is hilarious to him and he’s calling her out on the obvious lie. like, in any other circumstance he would not say she’s not actually jewish (cultural implications and what not) but he was just specifically pointing out that she does not go to synagogue. 

but yeah there’s just no way greg wouldn’t know that she’s jewish if she is, in fact, jewish. they may not be good for each other romantically but they do know each other. they know each other really well. in fact, i think greg actually knows annie better than literally anyone else does, including beth and ben, but that’s a different discussion for another time haha.
