"Two." Disgust said flatly. Grabbing at his own shoulders as if he hadn't quite made up his mind to cross his arms. "Two benefits without a sacrifice? That doesn't add up."

"Maybe we don't question a good thing?" Joy says, silenced quickly by a glare.

"I think he feels bad for us." Sadness offers. Smiling despite how horrific his words are.

"We can't have people feeling bad for us." Disgust croaks. The grip on his arms turning into a panicked facsimile of a hug. "Father doesn't listen, Richard coddles us, and now Drake, he'll know that we're- we're-" A hand on his shoulder sends his mouth closed with a click. Sadness is staring at him and he isn't sniffling or blubbering. Just giving Disgust a knowing look.

"It is plotting against us." Roman mutters into his pillow. Anxiety glances at the two of them, but goes back to fiddling with his nest.

"I'm plotting against you too, what's the big deal?" Remus says. "A little coup never hurt anybody." Roman let's out a huff and drifts to sleep. The prince of creativity's mind drifts from two to one. The buzz of Roman's brain nothing, but the quiet of sleep.

Remus stretches every limb and frowns at the empty clatter of his elytra.

"Roos?" Anxiety cooes. Remus blinks up at his feathered friend. Already the quiet of his own mind is sending something blurring at the edges.

"You'd tell me if you could talk right?" He mumbles.

"Octus, roos." Anxiety chirps and cooes nudging Remus into the center of the bed. Then, like he does every night after Roman's fallen asleep, Anxiety abandons his nest building.

Instead he climbs up next to Remus and settles down beside him.  Remus buries his face in Anxiety's feathers. It didn't really matter. Even if Anxiety was some serial killer plotting their demise all that slaughter had betrayal would be a problem for future Remus.

Right now he simply had an ever vigilant friend.

Joy, his smile gone stiff and pleading. Still treating Disgust as the problem like Sadness isn’t committing social suicide. It shouldn’t be a surprise. Joy is always too busy chasing after what they want to realize what they need.

“Maybe we can let sadness try?” He asks, squeezing Disgust’s shoulder. Disgust brushes the hand off. Schools his face to hide the sudden twist of betrayal he feels.

“Sadness.” He says as coldly as he can manage. “Is going to make us cry in the batcave.”

“Tim’s stopped frowning at us.” Joy insists gesturing at the veiwscreen.

“I- but-” Joy stammers. “That is why we’re doing this isn’t it?” He helps Sadness of the floor first and Disgust notes the slight. Shoves away the hand offered to him like he’s some sort of after thought.

“Drake doesn’t need to know that!” Disgust hovers over the panel trying to find a way to save this. Hesitant fingers skitter across various buttons and Damian wipes his eyes in a way that’s meant to look like he’s just tired.

“B can be shortsighted sometimes.” Drake says, tone a touch softer than neutral. Like Damian is a child to be coddled. It sends Sadness lurching toward the panel. Disgust grabs him.

“Haven’t you done enou-” A hand on his shoulder stops Disgust up short.

Panic snaps through him. Is Sadness alone at the panel?! Disgust is not dressed for high intensity activity, but sometimes you have to do a front pike off of a shoulder and slam a satin slipper into someone’s chest before they ruin everything.

It would be easier to get up there with Fear’s help, but Disgust does manage to clamber up Anger’s shoulders. He’s busy reaching for the memory, pulling it out of the projection. Drake's probably going to craft some idiotic response, so it's not like Disgust needs to pay much attention to the panel right now. He’s not expecting to hear Damian go. “Someone could die next time.” In a small wavering voice. Wip Wednseday | Batfaminsideout

It’s not the right time for something like that. Disgust snaps his fingers at Fear and Anger as he rushes to try and knock the memory out of the for front of their mind. It’s their memory, a swirling mix of red and purple. Anger comes to help, but Fear is stuck on the vision, ringing his hands as Joy tries to whisper comforts in his ear.

Drake rolls his eyes. “You’ve been trying to get the batmobile since you got here” Drake says. “How is two years not enough?” What a baseless assumption! As if Damian would struggle this hard to simply take the thing by force.

“I have been negotiating for quite some time.” Damian says. “But recent events have made it clear Father hasn’t realized limiting me causes unnecessary... liabilities.” The memory splashes across the view screen. Damian slamming his hands against unresponsive batmobile buttons as Drake slurs incoherently into the earpieces. He could be at Red Robin’s last reported location in minutes if the stupid thing would start for him. But it won’t and everyone it would start for are on foot so far away.
