“Legends of the Dark Knight: A History” - The Batman Himself…His Psyche…is Almost an Obsession with Mine…:
Acclaimed Batman writer Doug Moench brings the 3rd story arc to the ‘Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight’ publication in 1990/1991’s storyline “Batman: Prey”, illustrated by Paul Gulacy, Terry Austin and Steve Oliff. Released throughout issues 11 - 15 as a five part tale, 'Prey’ deals with the Batman gaining the trust of the Gotham City Police Department and working with a GCPD ally Captain James Gordon. The young Caped Crusader has to go up against the claims of psychiatrist Dr. Hugo Strange, who, after his initial analysis of Batman having a traumatic youth turning him to his current vigilante life style, is hired on by the police department in hopes of tracking down Batman and revealing his true identity. However, when Strange begins a media campaign to turn Gotham against its crime fighter and the newest burglar in town, Catwoman, Batman has to team up with Gordon to stop Strange from having the mayor and his entire city brand him as a menace to justice instead of a crusader. Moench’s 'Batman: Prey’ not only highlights the obsessively twisted Hugo Strange, one of Batman’s first villains in the Golden Age of Batman stories, but also focuses on the Dark Knight’s struggle with his dual identity as Bruce Wayne and Batman, trying to break down if his reasonings of being a vigilante avenger is the right path to take when coping with his personal loss.
