Ok, the Pete and Butterflies post (AKA, symbolism that started bc of a combination of a Bigtop Burger song and a Paramore song)

Pete's been around so long and things are constantly changing, and a lot of vampires who've been around as long as he has come up against two basic options: 1. Stay the same like a rock in a river, and let things change around you, or 2. Change constantly yourself. Pete has angled for the later, towards hyper adaptability, and this is largely for one reason and one reason alone.

Pete LOVES humans. He loves human culture, he loves community, and he loves art. It's not even like he finds it fascinating as an outsider. He wants to be fully part of it, he wants to live a million lifetimes, and he views each and every one of those lifetimes as equally valuable. That said, it can be hard to keep track of what's worth paying attention to and what he can ignore when things are changing so quickly. As he tells Valentine his solution to that has been to find like-minded mortals and anchor himself by their experiences, and their lives. Human lifetimes are so short but each one is a part of him.

So, Pete's single hobby he's carried across the years reflects this kind of outlook. He pins and displays insects - his favorite, obviously, are butterflies and moths. Even the shortest mortal life is beautiful to him. But, you know what eats insects? Bats. That's why I want Pete and Val's ship name to be batterfly. I'm nooooot sure if it'll catch on as i continue to post about and draw them but i feel like it's more fun than just PeteVal?
