Chakravyuha (aka Padma Vyuha) found at Piplu Fort, Rajasthan, India.

Chakra Vyuha is a special battle formation which was used in the Mahabharat war. 

Chakravyuha was formed thrice in the Mahabharat period: first by Bhishma to counter Arjun in the Virat war, second by Drona to trap Yudhishthir on the 13th day of the Mahabharat war (in which Abhimanyu died) & a third time to protect Jaydratha from Arjun on the 14th day of the Mahabharat war

The Chakravyuha consisted of skilled warriors whose positions rotated at predecided intervals. Only Abhimanyu was able to break the Chakravyuha because instead of attacking the soldiers in front of him, he attacked those on his left & right. When the ring rotated the gap he had created came in front of him & he barged on ahead into the Vyuha thus breaking each layer till he reached the very center of it.

Fire Emblem and the Roman Wedge Tactic

I first discovered this after learning about the wedge formation in history class and decided to try it out in FE9. The wedge is basically a triangular formation made to break through an enemy line. This tactic has worked wonders for me on large open maps with a concentrated enemy force. If you use it correctly it is awesome for offense and defense.

First make the front triangular line and then put more brittle units, like mages, priests, and archers, inside. The formation will usually cause the enemy units to spread out among the wedge making them easier to deal with with and less of a threat to any single unit. It is also a good idea to form the wedge with mind to the types of enemies your individual units are likely to encounter so they have an advantage. 

After looking up more Roman tactics I am interested in trying them out. I'll post the results when I get around to it if anyone is interested.
