😈 Is there anything you enjoy doing that you think your readers hate? 80s music references in my Fallout fic hahaha. (Or any more modern music, really). I can totally accept and understand why some people might feel it's jarring. It totally is. I'm also going to do it again.
I've referenced Madonna in particular, but the funny thing is, I don't particularly care for her music aside from a couple songs. I don't know how she hooked into my brain. I think, in formulating Natasha's method of "taking on a presence" or adopting a false front/persona, Madonna was just an image that came to mind. I was intending to cut the references when I started the second draft, but then I accidentally put in this metaphor in an early chapter that fits a particular future scene and song way too well and, well, Madonna's staying. I'm so sorry. 😂 👨👧👧 Do you tell people in real life that you write fic? For the most part, not really. My partner knows and is supportive, although (and I am expecting some folks to maybe not understand this, but that's fine) I don't really want him to read it right now. A lot of that is probably my self-esteem needing to grow a little more. The other part is, fanfic is how I broke out of my writing drought, so I am somewhat sensitive to people I hold in high esteem maybe not liking my work. Romance as a genre just isn't his cup of tea. I'm better at accepting that now than I was when I started writing the fic, but it's also become something that is "me time", something I do for just myself. We do talk about it and he's helped me brainstorm a lot. I might let him read it when it's fully completed. Two other friends (aside from the ones I've made in fandom) know I write fic, and one of them loves to see any art/commissions I have done for my characters/ships, but neither are familiar with Fallout and so don't read it. I would probably be okay if the one friend who's seen the art did read it. 🍰 Name one of your fave comfort fics (doesn’t have to be your all time fave).
