De-Phazz - “Downtown Tazacorte” Batucada Volume One by Minus 8 2000 Future Jazz / Downtempo / Trip Hop

De-Phazz is a jazzy German trip hop group that achieved a modicum of renown in the late 90s as part of the global downtempo and lounge scene. This scene became somewhat of an underground phenomenon between the mid-90s and early aughts, when literally thousands of various artist compilations were released, all of them centered around the concept of a classy and sophisticated, beachy Ibiza lounge or nightclub, or something similar. De-Phazz themselves have appeared on hundreds of these types of compilations.

And one of them is Batucada Volume One, a fantastic release from 2000 that was compiled by the Swiss downtempo/trip hop and drum n bass maven, DJ Minus 8. Appearing on that comp is a criminally short future jazz tune by De-Phazz called "Downtown Tazacorte."

Despite its brevity though, "Downtown Tazacorte" still has an abundance of goodness packed within itself. Vibrant from immediate jump, it sports a combination of tone-setting organ pads and a light touch of trip hop percussion before transitioning itself into beautifully textured and hypnotic Brazilian rhythms, along with an easy-breezy, soul-piercing, and free-flowingly rich trumpet effortlessly coasting on top.
