It's Saint John's eve. Named for Saint John the Baptist this evening the Vodou community of New Orleans gather on Bayou Saint John for ritual. It's believed Priestess Marie Laveau begun this tradition for the community in the crescent city many years ago. The high priestesses of New Orleans honor her and often ask for her wisdom, protection, and guidance. As with many rituals of New Orleans roots, sometimes the honored ancestor or spirit presents themselves through a participating vessel. The yearly gathering is intense, cathartic, and powerful. It's happening now, at sunset, on the sacred Bayou Saint John. We'll be down there later to pay our own respects. Wishing you a beautiful eve of Saint John. May abundance and vitality overflow your cups.
