Whoa whoa whoa whoa. Can you share your Fun Things Spreadsheet? This sounds like a thing my dysfunctional ass needs, stat.
Okay so like. It is just one tab in my “Randomizing” spreadsheet which also includes a tab for writing projects so I can randomly select one to work on, a list of places to eat lunch so I can randomly select one, etc. This tab is called “Read” because it really just started out as a way to pick a fic to read next from my out-of-control Marked for Later list + To Reread bookmark tag, but I wound up realizing that I would also like to sometimes read books/listen to podcasts/watch things/play that video game I like, so now it looks like this:
Blue = fic, the ones on top are from my Marked for Later list, and then the ones at the bottom are things open in tabs (I try to keep that down to five, with… mixed success). Green is books–one ebook, one in paper, with a note on when the paper one is due back at the library–and yellow is Other stuff–podcasts, the series of lectures I’ve been watching on YouTube, movies (randomly selected from the list of movies I made in another tab), tv shows (likewise), and the video game I like.
So, yep, that’s my executive dysfunction hack for Picking A Fun Thing To Do When I Have Some Time To Do A Fun Thing.
(Plus it’s extra-satisfying because once I finish a thing I can take it out of the list and randomly select a new thing to put in its place!)
(Also this is why I tend to wind up waiting up to six months before reading fic recced to me, even longer for books. Sorry, it’s the random number generator’s fault.)
