Had a dream this morning that Archive of our Own had a Random button which would simply take you to a random fanfic, like Wikipedia has. (AO3 does not appear to really have this, I checked and couldn't find one, but I kinda wish they did.) Someone had started a game where whatever fic you got, that was your new fandom, which is very fun! I would love this meme in real life.

The problem came in where so many people used the button that it broke and just started sending everyone to Stealing Harry, and like...I have fond memories of Stealing Harry but it's not my best work and nobody should be assigned to be a Harry Potter fan in this day and age.

So I decide to go off and find Astolat and demand she fix this but when I finally did (there was a whole quest) she turned to me like the baddie in a horror flick and said, "But that's the most random story there is" in a dark voice and I was terrified and woke up.

In the cold light of day I know there are more random stories by me on the archive, let alone by others, but I'm not going to try to get back there to argue my case. Pretty sure whatever I spoke to was actually the demon specifically assigned to plague fandom and not Astolat at all.

I'd say "get thee behind me, demon" but I know just how many porny fics on AO3 begin with that premise. (I've written some.) Begone foul spirit, and take your Satanic Panic with you!

Saw a couple of recent asks/discussions about some tropes always needing a dubcon tag (or do they), and it reminded me of one of my grievances: authors tagging consensual (and well-negotiated to boot) somnophilia with dubcon on the logic that the sleeping party can't withdraw consent while they're asleep. And I fucking weep, alright? I get the logic, sure! But I think readers can figure that bit out on their own, yeah? If I'm looking for dubcon somnophilia, I want something like one party straight up feeling up the other without any prior negotiation and them waking up and turning out okay with it. I want some actual fuckery in my dubcon, you know? Nothing is more irritating than looking for dubious consent and finding uncomplicated, freely given consent that is mistagged because the writers are overly paranoid. I understand, to an extent, but I do believe large swathes of modern fandom are losing sight of how dubcon is its own category and not something to slap on fics to cover your ass from the purity police.

Made a fakemon for a podcast I was on this past week!

Meet Snatchem, a ghost/electric type!

Pokédex entries:

Snatchem, the Abandoned Pokémon. Snatchems were all once different Pokémon and owned by trainers but were left in their Pokéballs for too long. Their physical form decays, leaving nothing but their spirit and data behind. 

Snatchem, the Abandoned Pokémon. Snatchem are extremely faithful creatures, not leaving their Pokéballs even if they’ve been left behind by neglectful trainers. After being caught by a new trainer, it may take time for it to warm up but it’s guaranteed to be a friend for life. 

Snatchem, the Abandoned Pokémon. Snatchem are rumored to try and catch wild Pokémon themselves. Some say it’s to find a physical body once more. Each one seems to target specific Pokémon, maybe alluding to what it was in its previous life

Other Stuff:

Based on the theory I have that people found a way over time to convert Pokémon into data (hence why they can be put into PCs)

They’re always in regular Pokéballs when you find them in the wild

When you catch them, you’re catching the spirit part, not the Pokéball (it’s just a shell)

It changes, based on what Pokéball you catch it with 

Catching with a Pokéball will give it its lowest stats, while a Masterball will give it its max stats

Most Pokéballs will have a similar stat effectiveness as an Ultra Ball but maybe effect specific stats differently 

Ex. A Heal Ball will make it so Snatchem’s HP stat is enhanced 

They can be found like Voltorbs where they’re designed as Pokéballs but trigger a battle animation upon investigating
