​I'm seeing a ton of people blaming men and misogyny for Birds of Prey bombing at the box office, so here are the reasons why they're wrong:

Men made up the majority of viewers at 53% (1). This is only slightly less than the 54% of men that made up Suicide Squad's opening weekend audience (2).

28% of Suicide Squad's audience was under 18 (3). This makes sense, given it was rated PG-13. The decision to make BoP rated R cut the number of under 18 viewers down to 9% (1).

February is a known "dump month" where film releases tend to do poorly (4).

Despite its financial success, Suicide Squad was widely panned (5, 6). The sole fact that BoP is a sequel to it likely turned people off.

This one is more anecdotal, but the trailers made BoP look far worse than it actually is. When it came out I saw across several discussion boards people criticizing how poorly put together it was.

There are probably some other contributing factors I'm forgetting as I'm not a film critic or analyst. The bottom line is simply that men are seeing this movie; its poor decisions by the studio that are causing it to lose money.
