Beast Boy nervously approached Robin in the common room. Robin sat on the couch in front of the TV, making small talk with Starfire. Raven was perched on the end furthest from them, reading a book with a bored expression but a telling light in her eyes that let on she was enjoying it. Cyborg was in the kitchen, making himself a snack most people would describe as a large meal. He wasn't sure he wanted to do this in front of everyone but decided he needed to be casual - speaking to Robin privately would get the young detective's mind wondering.
"Hey, Rob?" Beast Boy said, artificially relaxed.
"Yeah, BB?" Robin replied, affably.
"Just, uh, letting you know I'll be out of the tower tonight. No biggie, just meeting up with someone. For food," he said. Robin cocked an eyebrow.
"Someone we know?" Robin asked. Beast Boy shrugged.
"You might have met her, I guess," he replied. At that, Cyborg's shadow loomed over Beast Boy.
"Her?" he asked with a grin. "You going on a date, green bean?" Beast Boy sighed.
"Don't make it weird, dude. Just leave it, okay?" he said, wearily. Cyborg pointed at him, open-mouthed.
"You are going on a date! What's she like? What's her name? What does she do? Where-"
"No no no, no way, man. It's my first time going out with this girl, you are not getting involved. I'll let you know more about her later, okay?" Beast Boy begged. Cyborg sulked.
"Fine," he grumbled. Robin frowned for a moment, back in leader mode.
"If you're dating a civilian, you know I'll have to vet them at some point. Preferably sooner than later," he said. Beast Boy facepalmed.
"Aw, come on, really? Just let me do this, don't fill my head up with all that stuff, okay? Besides, I'm, like, one hundred percent sure she isn't a security risk or secret villain or Slade in disguise or anything. One. Hundred. Percent," Beast Boy stated. Robin acquiesced.
"Okay, I'll let it go... for now," he said.
"Listen, I'm letting her decide when I tell you guys about her, that's all," Beast Boy said. Cyborg and Robin smiled.
"Okay. Just looking out for you, short stack," Cyborg said.
"I'm sure you and this girl shall have a wonderful night, Beast Boy, followed by many more and perhaps even coitus!" Starfire chirped, causing Beast Boy's face to flush.
"Uh, thanks, Star," he mumbled. Not looking up from her book, Raven finally spoke.
"By the way, Robin, I'll be out tonight as well," she said. Robin frowned.
"You too? Can't you reschedule? I'm not sure I want to be two Titans down if something happens," he asked. Raven pretended to give it a moment's thought.
"Hmm, I'd rather not. I have a date with Beast Boy."
Silence.
"Well," Beast Boy said, laughing awkwardly, "I guess she decided."
“The most important thing in the world is family and love.”-John Wooden
Garfield blinked awake. He squinted into the darkness, his eyes quickly adjusting to the low light. A flash of pale skin caught his attention, and Garfield sat up. “Rae?”
She paused, hovering at the edge of the bed. It was then that Garfield could hear the gentle crying drifting in from the other room. He was up immediately, trying to usher the empath back into bed. “Go on back to sleep, Rae, I’ve got this.”
Raven wavered reluctantly, her gaze darting towards their bedroom door. “Are you sure? He might be hungry.”
Garfield chuckled. “Well, if he is I’ll come get you.” He leaned forward and pressed a gentle kiss on her forehead. “Now go back to sleep, okay?” Garfield didn’t wait for her to answer; instead he padded to the door and slipped out into the hall.
The cries grew louder as Garfield crept through the little apartment. He carefully opened the door and peered within. A smile quickly tugged at his lips as the outline of the crib caught his gaze. Garfield slipped into the room and flipped on a lamp, calmly padding up to the little crib. “Hey, little guy,” he cooed. His sharp nose caught the foul scent of a soiled diaper, and Garfield carefully scooped up the wailing newborn.
Chester Mark Logan, only three weeks old. Raven had picked the name; she’d read it somewhere in one of her many novels. Garfield hadn’t been fond of it at first; after all, he felt his own name sounded old. But after a lot of negotiating, or, on Raven’s end, insisting, the name had grown on him.
Garfield undid his son’s sleeper, mentally bracing himself. He was getting good at changing diapers. It was still disgusting, seeing the weirdly colored poop his child produced, but years of soiled food rotting in the fridge seemed to have prepared him.
The poop was just as bizarre as expected, and Garfield had to hold his breath to take it off and dump it in the trashcan. He snagged a wipe and cleaned Chester up, humming softly under his breath. The little newborn had settled down a bit, seemingly pleased that the soiled diaper was removed. He cooed up at Garfield, his big, purple eyes sparkling in the lamplight. “Hey, little dude,” Garfield murmured. Chester cooed in response, waving his little green fists in the air. It was utterly adorable. Then again, everything about Chester was adorable.
Despite the fact that his son had inherited his...green-ness, Garfield couldn’t see Chester as anything less than perfect. He’d always struggled with feeling attractive and handsome, and it wasn’t until he fell in love with Raven that he started to see that aspect of himself. And now, with Chester, he really saw it. The kid was a handsome little thing, green skin and all.
A pair of arms slipped around his waist, and Garfield jumped in surprise. Raven’s familiar scent washed over him, and he leaned into her touch. “I thought I told you to go back to bed?” he teased. Raven hummed into his back.
“You were taking too long; I wanted to make sure everything was okay.”
Garfield chuckled. “What, don’t trust me with a diaper?”
His wife pulled away, and he turned to see a smile lighting up her features. He stilled, admiring the joy sparkling in her eyes. Even now, at two o’clock in the morning, wearing rumbled nightclothes and a messy bun, she was still the most beautiful woman he’d ever laid eyes on. And he was lucky enough to call her his wife.
“You’re better with it than I am,” she murmured, her voice light with amusement. Garfield rolled his eyes and grinned. This was surprisingly true. Raven was a pro at figuring out what Chester needed when he cried, thanks to her emphatic abilities no doubt, but changing diapers was not her forte. The first time she tried, Raven had taken one look at the diaper’s contents and fled the room, leaving Garfield to do damage control. Which didn’t quite go so well; he’d nearly thrown up a few times until the diaper was changed and their son was cleaned up.
Now, though, changing diapers was a breeze. Garfield scooped Chester up and cradled him against his chest. He smiled softly as the little baby yawned and snuggled close, already drifting off to dreamland. A light touch grazed his arm, and he looked up to meet Raven’s gentle gaze.
“You’re so good at this,” she said. Garfield grinned.
“Eh, I’m alright. You on the other hand, are a goddess.” His statement earned him an eyeroll and a peck on the cheek, much to his pleasure. Raven leaned on his shoulder and slung her arms around his waist, smiling that beautiful smile he loved so damn much. How he ever got so lucky to have such an amazing family, Garfield didn’t know. He wasn’t sure if he’d ever know, but he wasn’t going to complain. Gifts like these were hard to come by, and he planned on loving his family with everything he had.
“You know, I wasn’t sure if I could have kids,” he murmured. Raven blinked up at him, her smile disappearing.
“Really?”
Garfield shrugged awkwardly, trying not to disturb Chester. “Yeah, well, messed up genes, remember?” He snorted, dropping his gaze to his son. “I mean, I could have gone to a lab and gotten tested or whatever. But...I guess I was afraid of the answer.”
Raven squeezed him in a one arm hug and pressed a kiss onto his shoulder. “It’s alright. I suppose I never knew if I could have children either.” There was a warmth to her voice despite her words, and Garfield blinked at her.
“What do you mean?”
“Well, I am a half-breed,” she said with a rueful smile. “It was possible I’d be sterile like a mule. However, my father is not mortal, so I already figured things didn’t quite work how they normally would.”
Garfield hummed thoughtfully. She had a point he hadn’t even considered before. Biologically speaking, two species similar enough could copulate, but if they differed too greatly, the resulting offspring was typically sterile. Like mules, for instance. Or ligers. But since Trigon was a demonic entity from another dimension, it made sense that magic was most likely involved.
Which had a tendency to make things a bit...interesting.
Chester stirred in his arms, snagging Garfield’s attention. “Do you think he’ll inherit our powers?”
Raven shrugged. “It’s hard to say. Our powers are so different...there’s no telling what combination could arise.”
They both stared silently at their child, apprehension and wonder filling the air between them. Garfield held him close, feeling suddenly protective. Powers or not, he’d do whatever he could to make Chester’s life as good as he possibly could.
He’d let Chester stay a kid for as long as he could.
Raven carefully pried their son from his arms, cradling him to her chest. “It’s time to let him sleep,” she murmured, shooting him a gentle smile. She kissed Chester’s head and laid him in the cradle, cooing words of comfort under her breath.
Garfield smiled at the sight. What a lucky man he was, indeed.
I got it to work. Victory is mine. Also, Garfield is the best dad, confirmed.
Let them sleep, they will figure it out in the morning. (unorthodox Sleeping Arrangements May 1st)
Starfire could barely contain herself when she saw them. It did help that Robin was right there to hold her back. It was two in the morning and the happy couple had come down to raid the fridge after ‘activities’. They were both dressed in their night clothes, Robin in a pair of sleep pants and Starfire in a red robe that matched her hair. They just came into the kitchen when they found Raven and Beast Boy asleep on the couch in the adjoining ops room.
Beast Boy’s head laid back on the back of the couch, his left arm limp to his side, and the game station controller still resting in his hand. The TV played animation of the game station with the red words “game over”. In his lap Raven’s head was resting. She laid on her back stretched out down the length of the couch. A blue leather bound volume was open and splayed across her chest using her body as a bookmark.
To anyone else walking in, the situation might have looked like random happenstance. Two people that might have just fallen asleep in an odd way. But to the Alien princess, and the Titan leader knew better.
“Do you think they will tell us soon?”
“They will tell us when they are ready Star, I am not sure if they even know themselves.”
“How could they not?”
Robin couldn’t keep an awkward smile from forming on his face “Starfire, I was attracted to you from day one, and it took me how long before we finally got together? Human feelings and how to deal with them can be confusing.” Robin leaned on the counter looking at his sleeping friends.
“Yet are you sure that they have the feels?” Star asked as she pulled out bottles of mustard and water, almost handing Robin the mustard.
Even after all this time Robin still loved how Starfire used the English language. That odd mix of earth slang and reversal of descriptive words. Robin’s eyes narrowed as it scanned for any details he might have missed at first glance.
“Look close, Raven’s not wearing her cloak and Beast Boy took off his gloves. Those only come off when they are really comfortable. ”
Robin was right while Raven would remove her cloak for practical reasons she never felt secure without that layer of protection around her shoulders, or having her hood to hide in. Beast Boy almost never took off those clunky gray gloves. He was always afraid of hurting someone with his claws. Robin held back a laugh imagining Raven yanking those gloves off his hands insisting that he didn’t have to hide them from her.
Robin continued “Listen, the TV is on its absolute lowest setting only Beast Boy would be able to hear it. ” Beast Boy often commented that video games were best at the highest possible volume.
“So Raven can read!” she stated loud enough for Robin to put his fingers to his lips.
“Exactly” he whispered hoping that Starfire would understand.
“Raven is not wearing shoes”
“Nice spot Star” Robin smiled. It was a bit obvious but he liked encouraging her and it was true Ravens boots were neatly placed on the floor next to the couch. The whole display was two people being and finding comfort with each other. Somehow this worked for them, being able to spend time together and still doing things that the other couldn’t stand.
Robin started looking through the cupboards as Starfire sailed through the air into the common room to check on her friends.
“They look peaceful” she flew back silently to the kitchen.
“Then we will leave them that way.” Robin said pulling out a bag of cookies from the cabinet “Come on, let go back to your room.” The two quickly disappeared down the hallway.
One of Beast Boy’s eyes popped open just to confirm that Raven and himself were alone once again. He lifted his head up and looked down at Raven’s
sleeping face in his lap. He ran his fingertips though her hair lightly.
“Rae, I think they’re on to us” he whispered. Raven’s only response was her steady relaxed breathing. Beast Boy smirked “Yea okay, we can deal with that tomorrow babe” he let his head fall back again to join her in slumber.
This one took about 3 false starts, originally was going to do something with BB and Raven with Beast Boy’s Bunk bed. Couldn’t get it to flow so might try that later. This showed up around 8am this morning. Please enjoy your fluff and the rest of the week.
“A kiss that is never tasted, is forever and ever wasted.”-Billie Holiday
While there were many things Raven enjoyed about being a superhero, there were others she found…not so enjoyable.
Paperwork was definitely one of them.
After it had become apparent that Robin had a tendency to overwork himself, the Titans had taken it upon themselves to distribute the work more evenly to give Boy Wonder a bit more breathing room. He had been pretty reluctant at first, often digging in his heels like a stubborn mule, but after much persuading and bargaining, he relented.
On some things, anyway.
Robin still insisted upon orchestrating with the police and planning out different training sessions and leading patrols, and such, but he did let the others help out with some of the smaller responsibilities, like filling out paperwork and finances.
Which Raven was doing now.
The only sounds in the common room consisted of the scratches of her pen and the rustling of paper. It was the music that filled her hour as she whiled away at the incredible stack of legal documents the Titans had accrued over the course of the past year. Raven heaved a sigh as she worked, only pausing to rub her eyes.
This sucked.
There was nothing she wanted more than to curl up with a nice book and just, read the day away. But alas, the paperwork wouldn’t do itself.
Unless…
She furrowed her brows, pondering for a moment. Could she enchant the pages? Perhaps, but she’d have to take the time to find a spell, time she didn’t really have. Not if these papers were to be done on time. Raven let out a huff and dropped her chin into her hands.
Stupid papers.
The swoosh of a door caught her attention, and Raven turned to see Beast Boy wandering into the room. He was humming rather loudly, his arms swaying to whatever beat was playing in his ears. A tune Raven found difficult to recognize. Was it that pop song she’s heard on the radio the other day? Or a rock song?
It was difficult to tell with Beast Boy, especially with his slightly off-key humming. She watched him practically skip to the fridge, where he rummaged for something or another. Probably soy milk.
Despite the fact that Beast Boy was only a vegetarian, he had a bizarre love for soy milk. According to him, the juice was far superior to milk, though Raven was forced to disagree. It was too sweet for her tastes. Though she did like to mix it with her grain cereal.
Not that she’d ever tell him that.
Raven attempted to return her focus onto the task at hand, sliding her gaze over a clause of dense legal jargon. Her eyes glazed over. It was some difficult stuff to read, as Raven wasn’t used to reading this type of documentation. She had to force herself to read it again. And again. And again.
It really didn’t help that Beast Boy was munching rather loudly on potato chips. While humming. She shot him a glare as he meandered to the table, his own gaze focused on his iPod. Beast Boy was, of course, oblivious to all outside of his music. And he looked pretty happy too, a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth as he hummed.
The irritation building within her died in her chest and she sighed. He may be distracting, but Raven didn’t have the heart to pull him from his blissful spell. So she returned to staring at the legal clause, watching as the words blurred across the page.
The events that unfolded next happened in slow motion.
There was a soft oof and a hand appeared in her line of vision, swiping the stack of papers from right under her. Raven jumped in her seat, gasping as Beast Boy crashed onto the ground in a heap. Papers fluttered around them, scattering themselves about the floor.
Raven looked from the smeared stack on the table, to the scattered mess that made up Beast Boy. He blinked up at her, a dazed expression muddying his features. A crooked smile worked its way onto his lips, and he chuckled. “Sorry, Rae.”
“What even happened?” she asked, carefully swiping her askewed stack back into order. There was a rustle as Beast Boy pulled himself to his knees and helped.
“I dunno. I guess I tripped.”
She turned to throw a him a retort, only for any and all words to wither at her lips. He was mere inches from her, his warm breath tickling her nose.
Raven gulped, suddenly forgetting how to breathe. Had his eyes always looked so nice up close? She noticed a light dusting of darker green flecks across his nose; freckles? It was surprisingly endearing, not to mention cute. Raven flushed at the thought.
Cute? Beast Boy?
Her gaze flickered down to his lips. She felt dizzy all of a sudden. His lips enraptured her, and she wondered what it would be like to kiss him…
Raven wasn’t sure what scared her more; the idea of kissing him, or the realization that she really, really wanted to.
The air around them grew hot, and Raven’s heartbeat roared in her ears. Though only seconds had ticked by, it felt like eons, and she shivered as their noses brushed. Her lips met his, and she kissed him.
His lips were sweet, like sugar. It was fitting, somehow, and the sensation made her toes curl. The kiss itself was slow and gentle; exploratory. They broke apart cautiously, flushed and breathless.
Raven bit her lip, a smile spilling across her lips. Was it possible to feel this giddy? She didn’t know. Perhaps. That would certainly explain why she felt like she was floating.
“Uh, that was…unexpected,” Beast Boy murmured. A smile matching her own tickled his features, and Raven could feel the swell of his happiness drifting off of him. She shrugged, turning back to her ramshackle stack of papers.
“Indeed it was.”
She plucked her pen from the table, still feeling as though she was among the clouds. Unexpected, yes, but definitely not unwanted.
It’s short, I know, but I like the nice and compact little slice of life scenario this gives. So here. :D

“I’m fine.”
“You’re stubborn,” he corrected, peeking an eye open. “What’s up with you anyway? Y’seem a little antsy tonight.”
“Maybe because you won’t kiss me.”
It had never really dawned on her that she was in love with him. Not until this particular moment, of course.
It was around eleven at night when they’d gotten back to the tower, bruised and bloodied after a tousle with Cinderblock that had taken far too long… Or wait, maybe it had been Plasmus. The point was that it was too late and her mind was too foggy to remember which hulking creature she’d had the pleasure of spending her Thursday evening ripping to pieces. Raven rolled her eyes. Sending her soul self was always such a feat, leaving her mind as worn as her body. When she’d finally dragged herself to her room, there were only two thoughts occupying her weary mind, and one of them had been getting that foul purple goop out of her hair.
Oh right…. They had definitely fought Plasmus. Disgusting.
If she had to guess, Raven would say it was midnight now. After tending to the wounds Robin had begrudgingly allowed her to heal, she’d been wandering aimlessly around the boys’ corridor, silently hoping to run into a certain teammate. Of course, he didn’t disappoint, (he never disappointed her), which lead to their current situation.
“How’re ya holding up?”
His playfully hushed tone crossed the bridge of her nose, and her arms tightened around her chest. “M’fine,” her gaze faltered, “Robin’s wounds were minor, so I figured while I was over here, I’d-”
“Thanks for worrying,” he pressed a kiss to her temple, “but you should get some rest.”
She really should. Pure exhaustion had a way of tearing down the strict structure she filed her emotions into so neatly. It would be wrong to abandon her structure for a single, foolish urge. Then again, his hands were so warm around her waist… No, no, no. No. Anything she thought she wanted tonight were trifles at best, poorly filtered thoughts that would fade with the morning light. Swallowing her desires, Raven peered into those gorgeous emerald eyes, glinting ever so kindly against the dim hallway lights. “I’ll see you tomorrow, then.”
Beast Boy nodded, leaning forward one more time. The kiss was simple, meant to be a parting gesture, but it knocked her mental resolve over like a clean row of dominoes. Raven couldn’t help it. Rising to her toes, she pressed back, a firm message delivered directly against his lower lip. The boy froze, shocked as he caught her earnest gaze. Shifting his grip on her waist, Beast Boy offered a goofy grin before slamming her back against the carpeted wall.
“Umph!”
The strangled sound left her lips before she could choke it back, her hands flying over his one, which now had a slightly looser grip on her thigh.
“R-Raven?!” Beast Boy gasped, muscles tensing. The girl shot him a guilty glare, withdrawing her hands just as quickly. “What the hell?” His tone lowered to nothing more than a grumble grazing her earlobe. “You said you were fine!”
“I am.”
“Shut up,” he sighed, resting his forehead against hers, “you’re totally not fine, Rae.” His eyelids fell closed and his guilt overwhelmed her senses, sending an undeniable message blaring in her mind: I don’t want to hurt you.
Raven scrunched her nose, staring up at him with the slightest of pouts. It wasn’t fair how gentle he was with her. Since they’d started this whole… whatever it was, he’d been nothing but nice. Unbelievably polite, with the exception of taunting remarks laced with affection. To the untrained eye, it was cute to see Beast Boy act like such a gentleman, but Raven knew better. They’d been teammates for years, after all. She’d seen him fight, she’d seen him protect, she’d seem him possess; he had passion. And she only wanted a little taste. But instead, he coddled her with butterfly kisses that were so gentle they felt like a tease. Of course, that hadn’t quite been his intention… And yet, she’d fallen for the bait.
It wasn’t like she didn’t like how he kissed her. When he tilted her jaw, just so, his lips fit perfect against hers and it made her head so light she could float. It was flattering how much respect he’d put into their relationship. But this… The way he’d resorted to treating her like a fragile little bird was infuriating. Like a bruised hip could stand in the way of throwing her up against the wall and kissing her senseless. Hell, she was still Raven. She was still the daughter of an intergalactic demon, and still a member of the most esteemed team of heroes in Jump City. She wasn’t fragile… Not in the slightest.
“So that’s….” Raven finally spoke, eyes trailing lazily up and down his torso. “That’s all I get?”
“You’ve at least got a bruised hip and knowing you, it’s probably actually broken. Someone’s gotta look out for you, Rae, if you’re not gonna look out for yourself.”
“I told you I was fine, Garfield.” She retorted, running her fingertip along a tear in the fabric of his uniform. Slender fingers stroked the fresh scratch stretched over his ribs with an aqua glow, and Raven sighed, “I’m fine.”
“You’re stubborn,” he corrected, peeking an eye open. “What’s up with you anyway? Y’seem a little antsy tonight.”
“Maybe because you won’t kiss me.”
“…”
“Wha-what?!” Pressing a palm to her forehead, the changeling offered a nervous chuckle. “You’re definitely worse off than I thought, Rae. We literally just-”
“No… I… Not like that, idiot.”
“I don’t really get-”
“I want you to kiss me like you mean it, Gar.”
“But you’re hu-”
“I know, I know,” Raven swallowed back another irritated sigh, waving his protests from the air like a obnoxious smell. “But….” Trembling fingertips traced his frame, higher and faster until they laced around his neck, fidgeting with the damp forest hairs at the base. “But if you’re the one to hurt me… I don’t think it would be so bad.”
Emerald eyes flashed.
“You… You don’t know what you’re talking about,” his voice went serious, “once I start, it’s not so easy to quit,” hands curled around her waist, “so if you want me to stop… Tell me now.”
Amethyst hues met his, answering his warning with all the disregard in the world.
His knee shoved between her legs, pressing her up and back against the wall. Raven swallowed. “Or now.” His movements were fluid, one hand gripping firm around her waist, the other snaking up through the swell and dip of her curves until his grip had locked firm against her neck. “Or now.” His lips were against her cheek, caressing carelessly down her jaw. The pressure of his knee against the thin sliver of uniform was agonizing against her core, his fingertips forming new bruises along her jawline. She felt his canines, ghosting dangerously over her veins, followed by the sweltering slick of his tongue at the base of her neck. “Or,” he paused, his greedy stare striking hers with enough fervor to drop her jaw, pretty lips parting just for him, “now.”
And then, he pressed his lips against hers.
It was rough and unrestrained, and in that moment, Raven decided she was in love. And being in love felt like Garfield’s calloused hands rushing beneath the tears in her uniform, it tasted like the tip of his tongue, it sounded like desperate gasps and quiet hums beneath a familiar cloak of darkness. A slight gasp escaped her throat as his tongue slipped across her lower lip, twisting her own into knots as tight as cherry stems. It was an experience more intoxicating that a case of the finest wine; Raven could drink in the experience forever.
He was breathless, lost in her flavor, moans so guttural she could feel the vibrations between her thighs. Raven shuddered, eyes slamming shut as he yanked her up against his mouth. “Sorry…” he murmured, brows threaded in concentration as he blindly tucked a lavender strand behind her ear, “your, ah, bruises…”
What bruises? She could only feel him. His touch was territorial, hands claiming every curve and swell of her body as his mouth lurched further against hers. His abdomen, clenched as she ran the naughty trail between his hips, the his slight weight against her thigh. Ragged breaths pushed against her chest, the rise and fall forcing her heartbeat into the same rhythm as his own.
Garfield… He had much more power over her than she’d care to admit. Just his lips, supple and gentle as they pulled against hers with insatiable hunger before curving blissfully against hers, made her weak in the knees. The hungry metallic taste to his breath, needle-like trace of his canines against her tongue sent her heart fluttering. He was a wonderful kisser in every sense of the way.
She could kiss him every second of every day until the end of time, and even that infinity wouldn’t be enough.
When he pulled away, he cupped her face like his masterpiece, admiring the way he’d nipped and tugged her lips into a wonderfully supple swell, the way he’d planted burning red roses along her neck that would surely bloom into a gorgeous violet garden atop her silvery skin.
Beast Boy stared down at the breathless sorceress, wiping the corner of his slightly puffy lips with the edge of his wrist. God, why was that so hot? Raven bit the inside of her cheek.
“Are you…” he touched the tip of his nose to hers, a nervous smile playing his lips, and not a bit of remorse in his gleaming green eyes, “did I hurt you? How, uh.. How was it?”
Raven smiled, “let’s just say we’re going to need to replace some light bulbs in the kitchen.”

Perhaps Armageddon isn’t fully thwarted yet. Raven could tell – Beast Boy was sad.
She keeps a good distance between them, the boy maintaining a quiet disposition all the while wearing his goofy mask.
Mask. Now she remembers his predicament.
“Stop following me.”
She materializes, almost allowing a sigh. Raven tries to remember what she was here for.
“My room’s right next to yours.”
Beast Boy is lucky he’s wearing his Doom Patrol trademark mask, because the tears welling in his eyes are less visible. Not to say they aren’t there though, because they areThe fact makes him clench his fists.
“Yeah, well, you just passed it.”
Idiot. Raven pulls her cloak even tighter.
“Just get outta my way. Aren’t you good at that?”
Deflection. Raven knows that trick by heart now. She’s a little stung by the remark, but at the moment he’s more hurt than she is.
“Look, you’re leaving for a Doom Patrol mission. So what?”
Okay, maybe that needed a little rephrasing, she thinks. The space between them closes and her teammate growls. He tries to threaten her with a glare, but the tears and whimpers don’t help his efforts.
“‘So what?' Are you kidding me? Dude, that’s the problem!”
He sharply looks away, biting his lip. His voice lowers in something akin to a murmur but still not quite.
“…Nobody cares.”
“Why’d you think that all of a sudden?”
She asks in a gentle voice, more wary of his feelings.
It turns out to be a mistake because he snarls and lets out a gloved fist, the other pointing to it as he angrily starts to enumerate.
“W-well, let’s see then!”
“Somehow everyone’s over the moon when Cyborg thwarts Blood.”
One. A little crude on his delivery, she comments to herself.
“Oh, and when Robin was tripping and seeing Slade. You guys were so worried.”
Two. She’s overwhelmed by this newfound anger, and she doesn’t like where he’s directing it.
“And let’s not forget how you saved Earth and how Robin really is your–”
Slap!
Raven feels little remorse for the red palm printed on Beast Boy’s cheek.
“Do you hear what you’re saying?” She seethes, doing a better job at glaring at him. She truly can’t believe what she just heard came from a well-meaning friend such as him.
He gives up and lets the tears fall.
“I just… this is a big thing for me, and…”
He walks closer, and has to tiptoe a bit to reach her shoulder. Before she understands what he’s doing, he throws her into an embrace.
“…sorry. That was horrible.”
She manages returning the hug without instinctively sending him off to the next dimension. It’s a bit of a favor since she did the same thing without warning too.
They allow silent moments to pass, locked in a hug. Raven breaks it.
“Well, if it’s any consolation…”
Beast Boy wants the feeling of his head on her shoulder back so badly. He closes his eyes trying to replicate the feeling.
“…You’re doing a good job.”
Feeling a small warmth on the bridge of his nose, his eyes fly open and find Raven gone, perhaps out of embarrassment. He somehow regrets his foul remark about beating Trigon.
The common room that was once the place of countless meetings, lounging, and social events for young, teenage superheroes, was now the setting for a small gathering of retirees. Old men and women sat around the infamous couch, chatting idly with one another. On one end on the couch was an older man dressed a plain white shirt, black pants, and a red tie. He had thin grey hair, a cane in his hand, and a familiar black mask over his sunken eyes. Sitting next to him was an equally aged woman, who still had long flowing hair, but the last of its fiery-red color was faded and intermingled with white. On the other side of the couch sat a large, black man, with a hunched back and walker sitting in front of him. He too had grey hair, but only on the sides of his otherwise, bald head. The man was more of a machine really, with only the very last basic human parts left exposed. They were all waiting for the man that had summoned them here. That man was hiding behind a door that separated the common room from the hallway. He was a green-skinned man, with pointed ears and a jutting fang protruding from his bottom lip. He, like the female, had aged rather nicely. He had mostly grey hair, with only a few stray forest-green locks sticking out. His senses were still sharp as ever, and physically he was doing pretty well for a 77 year-old.
He was waiting behind the door, listening to his old friends attempting to make conversation as they awaited his announcement. His palms were sweaty and his stomach kept doing somersaults. It reminded him of all the other times he has been in this exact situation. When he would be found standing behind the door, anxiously preparing to make a nerve-racking, life-changing announcement to his teammates. The feeling of déjà vu brought back all those memories from long ago.
It was a normal day inside the Titan Tower. A group of teenaged superheroes were all lounging around the common room. Starfire was in the kitchen, preparing some sort of Tamaranian snack. Cyborg and Nightwing were playing an intense round of Halo 4. Only two other Titans were left, but neither had quite made it to the common room yet. Standing outside the main door, unbeknownst to the rest, was a nervous changeling and an equally nervous empath.
“I don’t know Gar. Are you sure we have to tell them?” The young women asked with a hint of fear coming from her voice. The man standing close to her simply smiled, and took her hands into his.
“I know you’re nervous Rae, but they are going to find out sooner or later. We might as well tell them now. Isn’t better they find out from us than by walking in on us making out on the couch?”
The women nodded her head. “Yes, I suppose that this is slightly less awkward than that.”
“Great!” The young man grinned and released her hands. “Let’s do this then!” He turned to walk through the door, but a gentle tug on his hand made him stop and turn to face the frightened enchantress. “Rae?” He questioned, raising an eyebrow curiously.
“When we go in there, can you tell them?” Her question was a simply one, yet for her it meant so much more. The normally fiercely independent and emotionless half-demon was scared and asking for help. Gar knew it was not the announcement itself that scared her so much, but the emotions that were going to be brought up from it. She did not trust herself, but she did trust him.
“Of course, Rae.” He said in a loving tone. He gave her hand a gentle squeeze, and then together they both entered the common room.
None of the other Titans paid them any notice at first. The boys were too invested into their game and Starfire in her cooking to pay them any attention. It wasn’t until Garfield cleared his throat that a certain red-head turned around to face the couple. She immediately noticed the young couple’s hands intertwined and the largest smile appeared on her face. Within a heartbeat, Starfire had dropped everything, flew over to her two friends, and wrapped them in a bone-crushing hug.
“Oh friends, what glorious news!” She cheered. The scene was enough to pull Nightwing and Cyborg’s attention away from the game, in order to see what all the commotion was about.
“Star, we haven’t said anything yet.” Garfield gasped as his body was being crushed by the alien princess.
“Oh, but I can already tell by your symbolic holding of the hands! A sign that you and friend Raven are now a couple, yes?” She asked in her signature innocent voice as she released the two from her embrace. Before Garfield could answer her, Cyborgs booming voice interrupted them.
“What? Say it ain’t so!” The robotic man jumped up off the couch and went over to inspect the couple for himself. He blatantly gawked at the sight of the two holding hands. “Well I’ll be! Raven and the green bean finally hooked up!”
Garfield narrowed his eyes at the use of the nickname, while Raven just stood there blushing. “Don’t sound so surprised rust-bucket.” Garfield countered. Cyborg simply chuckled.
“Oh don’t get your panties in a twist; I really am happy for y’all.” The older man said as he gave a rough, but caring pat on Garfield’s back.
“So it’s true then.” The leveled voice of Nightwing was heard and broke up the little love fest the rest of the team was having. He was no longer on the couch and instead of standing beside his alien girlfriend, observing the scene quietly until now. No one knew what to say, so they all waited for the leader to finish. “You two are dating now?”
His question was direct and void of any emotion. It gave even Raven chills. Garfield was about to answer, but his girlfriend beat him to it. “Yes.” Was all she said. Nightwing and Raven shared a short stare-down, before the man gave her a small smile.
“Well then, I think this calls for a celebration. How about an early pizza night, on me?”
The tense atmosphere faded instantly and for the rest of the evening, the group of friends shared their favorite meal and talked about the newest couple in the Tower.
The memory faded from Garfield’s mind as he continued to stand on the other side of the door, trying to gather up enough courage to go in there. “I can’t do this!” He sighed as he dropped his head into his hands. “Damn it!” He cursed as he walked away from the door. “I’m sorry, Rae, but I just can’t do it this time.”
A younger Garfield was standing outside that same door, his hands running through his shaggy green hair. “I’m sorry Rae, but I can’t do this.” He announced as he turned and started headed down the hall. A small, pale hand found its way into his and stopped him in his tracks.
“Yes, you can Gar.” Raven’s voice was uncharacteristically sweet and loving. He turned around and was met with the sight of his beautiful wife, heavy with child (or more specifically children). She was looking at him with big, amethyst eyes that had more affection in them then he had ever seen from anyone else.
“Don’t look at me like that.” He said in mock irritation.
“Like what?” She asked in a fake, innocent voice.
“Like that!” He emphasized. “You’re giving me that look! I know, because I’m the one who invented that look.”
She gave him a smirk. “Then you should know it always works.” She said plainly. “Now enough stalling. Go in there, and ask for that promotion.” She pointed to the door.
“But Rae, I can’t just ask for a promotion. That kind of thing is given, not demanded.” He tried to reason, but the empathy would have none of it.
“No Garfield Logan, stop that. Stop making excuses. I worked hard to get them all here, and I am not letting you through away all that hard work simply because you lost the nerve to tell them the truth. You want this promotion. You deserve this promotion. Now go out there and get that promotion.” As she finished her speech, she yanked Garfield’s arm and pushed him out the door. He tried to turn and run, but the door had already swooshed shut. He turned around and met the confused glances of his old teammates, and suddenly he felt like a teenager again, asking take Raven out for a date.
“She can’t force me out there this time.” Older Garfield spoke to himself. “This one is all on me.”
He was pacing the hallway now. To conflicted within himself to do much else. The way he saw it, he had two choices. Either run down the hall, turn into a falcon and fly far away from here and never come back, or…
“I have to tell them.” He whispered this time. He shut his eyes and took in a deep breath. “They deserve to know. It’s what she wanted.”
He never did like the infirmary. The smell of bleach bothered his nose, and the sight of medical instruments brought up painful memories that he hated to face. Now, however, he had to stay in there. She needed him there.
She was floating just inches away from the mattress of the infirmary cot, lost to the world as she tried to fight the disease that had plagued her body. Garfield sat beside her, waiting for her to wake up. It had been a week now. Seven days since she went into her healing trance, a last ditch effort to heal her body. It was only a matter of time before her mission would be complete, and she could return to him. At least, that is what he told himself.
Suddenly, the soft, white glow that had covered the women’s body disappeared, and Raven fell onto the bed with a thud. The unexpected movement caused the changeling to jump in his seat.
“Raven!” He called out, as he began to worry over her. Questions began to poor out of him as he checked her over, looking for anything out of the ordinary.
“Garfield.” Her voice was barely a whisper, but his perfect hearing picked it up immediately. He froze in place and stared into her faded, violet eyes.
“Yes, Rae?” His voice cracked, but he paid it no head.
Her face was completely blank at first, reminding him of how she used to look when they were much younger. Back then, he used to think she was an emotionless statue, but after years of being together, he knew better. Though her face should little emotion, it was her eyes that revealed exactly what she was feeling. He stared deep into those eyes, looking past the love they held and seeing something he wished he could forget.
“I’m sorry Gar.” Her voice was hushed, but hoarse. “I tried so hard, but the cancer…it’s just too fast for me.” Her sorrow finally caught up with her, and she back to cough as she choked back her tears. Garfield quickly reached over her and pulled her into a firm hug as he tried to calm her down.
“Shh Rae. Don’t cry. Please, don’t cry.” He cooed as he began to rock her in his arms.
“I…tried…my best, but…it’s spreading so fast.” Her voice broke in between words as her sobbing made it more difficult for her to speak.
“I know, Rae. I know you did your best. It’s not your fault, Raven. It’s not your fault.” His voice gave out at the end, and his own tears started falling from his face. The consequence of her failure was left unsaid. They both knew what was to come. There was no need to put it into words.
They both sat on the bed, crying and trying to comfort each other. When they both ran out of tears, Raven took the opportunity to find her voice. “Garfield?”
“Yes, Rae?”
“Will you tell the team?”
Although they have had countless teams during their days, there was only one team that she could be thinking about at a time like this.
“Of course, Rae.” He said as he tightened his grip around her. “Of course.”
With one more look at the door, Garfield let out a deep sigh then in one fluid motion he stepped up to the door and the metal object swooshed open as he walked straight through. Old and tired eyes landed on the changeling as he approached the old members of his team.
“So what was so important that you couldn’t tell us over the communicator?” The retired Nightwing asked in his signature, no-nonsense, voice. Garfield looked over at each one of them, and for the first time, he was not nervous, he was heart-broken.
