these are my initial worldbuilding notes for the bnha political fantasy au: - the initial setting is the viran empire, a massive superpower in the habit of swallowing up smaller, independent states. shigaraki serves as the head general/de facto ruler, and no one ever really sees the elusive emperor. - on the other side of the political equation is the united alliance of provinces, also known as yuuei, which is a semi-democratic alliance of small states that have banded together to resist viran's encroachment. all might is the current elected head of the alliance. - quirks are still a thing, and how a society treats those without quirks is pretty indicative of their priorities and morality. viran has a high population of quirkless people who are treated as second class citizens. - one class of these quirkless people are conscripted as gladiators, who perform quirkless fights for the entertainment of the elite, who have quirks and tend to serve in the proper army. - one of those gladiators is bakugou, who's been the champion in the arena for a few years when our story starts. he's basically got no hope for advancement or freedom, and also doesn't really have a name. as readers, you'll know he's bakugou, but he doesn't have much of an idea of who he is. - if you see an issue with bakugou being part of a class of quirkless people, you are paying attention. - midoriya is an aid in all might's staff who comes with his boss to viran to try and broker a ceasefire in the war. - there's a band of mercenaries who can safely traverse both sides of the fraught border, and they are commonly known as the rioters. - some other stuff happens idk.
