Worth a repost, here’s a recent blog post by Eve Lazarus, giving a sneak peak at some lost murals by bc binning. Eve has reposted a previous story or two of mine in the past, here’s my chance to reciprocate. We thankfully still have the Electra, but there are some lost treasures indeed! The BC Electric Showroom, 600 Granville at Dunsmuir, is seen here all dressed for Christmas in 1937. The store sold domestic electrical appliances as part of the company’s effort to promote consumer use of its hydroelectric power.
BC Electric became BC Hydro in 1961.
The location is now a Keg Steakhouse.
The shadowy turret in the background belonged to a Bank of Montreal that became a CIBC and was replaced by a more modern building in the 1950s.

BC Electric trolley/bus ads by Peter Ewart, courtesy of his daughter Linda Ewart. Peter is famous for creating some of the most distinctive travel posters in the CPR's portfolio, and these ads reveal he was also producing work for the BCER! Thanks, Linda!

Vancouver Trolley Bus, 1969 by Angus J McIntyre.
This 1949 Canadian Car Brill trolley bus is shown in downtown Vancouver, B.C., in July of 1969, one month before I started training to drive these vehicles at the age of 21. At that time the buses had no right side mirror, and we had the responsibility of making change and selling tokens. These vehicles ran until 1984, when they were replaced with Flyer trolley buses, and they in turn have been replaced recently with low-floor trolleys. I took this photo with a Hanimex rangefinder camera.
BC Hydro logo on the TRAMS' 1964 GMC on Flickr. Presumably, this logo was rolled out some time on or around March 30, 1962 when the amalgamation described below took place.
From BC Hydro's corporate history: "To enable the development of Peace and Columbia River projects, the provincial government stepped in and bought BC Electric in 1961. A year later the government amalgamated BC Electric with the Power Commission to create a new Crown corporation: the British Columbia Hydro and Power Authority, known more familiarly as BC Hydro. The '60s and '70s saw BC Hydro take on some of the most ambitious hydroelectric construction projects in the world."
